Hey everyone just need some advice and opinions. My fiancé and I are doing a destination wedding in Mexico from Toronto and I am wondering about doing actual paper invitations. We are sending out electronic save the dates with a link to the website but I am debating sending out paper invitations as well.

In all honestly we do not believe either of our families will be able to make it for monetary reasons and small children but do we need to send invitations anyways and spend the money.

Is it tacky to not send them or send all free electronic versions? Don't wanna be the tacky couple but at the same time would like to save money as much as we can and be able to put it into the week and having an awesome wedding there?

Please let me know your thought.

I was thinking of ordering my passport invitations to those who are able to come and order a cheaper, but nice invitation to those guests, I know will not make the wedding.

Hey! I didn't do STD just paper boarding pass invites. Honestly I used a template from 'Aylee bits' on the internet and printed them at home. I made 25 ish invites and they cost around $35. It was very cost effective. The odd guest didn't get an invite for various reasons.

Since it's a destination wedding I believe whatever you are comfortable with goes!

But did wanna let you know they can be done fairly cheap.

Good luck.

We just did electronic save the dates and are not sending out any paper invites.

After sending out the save the dates, we already know who is coming with us to Mexico since they've already put down deposits. Our thought process was, why spend the money to send a paper invite to people who have already received an "electronic invite" to the wedding?

That being said, paper invitations are very pretty (especially the passport kind), so I don't fault anyone for sending them out - just seemed like an extra expense to us that we could cut out. Haven't heard anything negative from family and friends about not receiving a paper invite.

We did a paper STD which cost us about $200 (print + postage).

I'm in the same boat as some of the other brides. We may send information packages via mail to those that have put their deposits down, but not to everyone we invited. A couple will go to those older guests that can't make it...mostly because Nonna told us we had too lol :)

There is an alternative that is fairly inexpensive if you really do want to send out paper invites. Staples or Michaels sells boxed invitations that you can print on your home printer. They give you a website inside the box and you pick whatever design to match what you bought, then print them. I did it for a friend's daughter. Her colours were grey and pink. She bought the invites with grey doves and I printed them in pink for her. They turned out actually really nice. I was quite surprised. It was just a flat card with a matching envelope and looked fine.

The other idea is to sign up for Vistaprint and watch for their sales. If you get a deal that's 50% off you can get a very good price on invitations and they do have destination wedding designs.

Having said all that, with a destination wedding you can do almost anything. I can't see why it would be tacky to just send free electronic ones. That way too you could have people RSVP directly to your website.

Only immediate family will be attending our DW.  Thus, we are not sending out anything.  We just told everyone verbally and plan to give them verbal updates as well until the itinerary is set.  At that point I will get the event schedule, hotel information, etc. printed and sent to them.   Everyone will be attending.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
