Mariachi Band Recommendation In The Mayan Riviera Area

Recommended Posts

Hi brides!

I'm getting married in the Mayan Riviera in April and would like to hire a mariachi band for our cocktail reception in between the ceremony and dinner/reception. However, the quote I'm getting from my hotel is $450 for a 45 minute set which seems absurd. I have a few questions about this:

1. Have any of you ever negotiated prices in your wedding package, and if so was it successful?

2. For any of you who have booked a mariachi band in the past, is this a reasonable price? If not, what is a reasonable price?

If you have a band recommendation in the Mayan Riviera area that would be less than this, please let me know!

Hi Robyn!

I've negotiated prices but not with the Mariachi. I went thru out hotel for our 3 man band and we paid approx $375 Canadian.

That said, other brides around my dates were reporting 2-3x more at their resort!!!!! No joke so I was pretty impressed with our fee! So with that said $450 doesn't seem completely ludacris.

I have no recommendations for you for on an outside source. Just remember if you bring one in from off the resort and/or not on a preferred vendor list you will pay an outside vendor fee that can be pricey!

Sorry I'm on my phone and can't see what resort you are at. Hope that helps some.

@rbehlke  I see your at a Riu for your wedding. As @@calgarybride2015 mentioned, the resorts can get quite strict about outside vendors coming onsite. I was just messaging with a former bride and she couldn't have anyone come onto the resort to do her hair/makeup. They had to use the resort spa, which isn't always something some brides want to do. From reading posts here RIU resorts are very strict about bringing in outside vendors. I'm not totally sure if they would hit you with a very high fee, or just forbid it all together. Some resort fees are as high as $1000 per vendor. When you're looking at roughly $75 difference in the possible cost of the resort band as compared to an outside band, a $1000 fee is pretty steep!

Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
