@yycbride2016 Same here! My resort was originally trying to charge me $800 per vendor EEEK!! So I chose him when I was under the impression that I had to pay the $800. I was able to get my resort down to $400 per vendor.

I'm really happy with my choice. He's been amazing with communication, he is open to all of my visions for the day of and has offered to skype with me and go over everything. He's even offered to help me get sparklers at a cost price because everyone else is cancun is charging ridiculous prices ($1 per sparkler - and they are the extra long ones).

I also just knew because when I looked at his photos on his website I got all misty eyed. I could feel the emotion in his shots so he sold me.

@perianjay awe thats perfect! He sounds amazing to work with. I just sent an email to him asking for some quotes. So exciting! I didn't expect to book photography for a nother 3 months or so. I hate when plans change haha. But thats for this info, its super helpful and i'm looking forward to hearing back from him with quotes!

@calgarybride2015 Do you have a link to your photographers personal stuff? Cielito Lindo Photography? When I google it I can't seem to find her.

@yycbride2016 that's a huge price increase! How can they even justify that much of an increase? I know prices change year to year but usually it's only an increase of 10%!

I agree with everyone that there are a number of talented photographers in the Riviera Maya. I instantly fell in love with Samuel Luna's work and he was actually the first vendor I booked! He is really responsive and was fairly reasonably priced as well.

One tip that I kinda now wish I looked into further is Canadian photographers working in Mexico. I've read some brides say that they booked a Canadian photographer (who lives and works in Mexico) and was given the option of paying in Canadian dollars. Given the awful exchange rate right now, looking into this could potentially save you a lot of money. I don't know if all of the Canadian photographers offer this option but worth exploring! Some of the Canadian photographers I've seen are Moments That Matter and Bicoastal

@Wafflesmom Also a good idea (the canadian photogs). I think I looked into a few, but MTM and Bicoastal were a bit out of budget for us.

Our photographer was also the first vendor we booked!! haha. I think it's because we spent a lot of time on photography research since it was really important to us. It's one of the best lasting memories of your big day :)

@Wafflesmom

Thank you so much! That is such a great idea. I agree, given the market right now and the Canadian dollar (and I live in Oil city haha) that would be a great way to save on costs. I might re-consider the option of bringing a photographer with me too. The one who did my engagment photos is super nice and she offered so much for me. My only concern with her was paying for her and her assistant (aka husband) to go on a week long vacation. I might look into seeing how much 3 days would cost instead of 7.

@perianjay great minds think alike ;) and completely agree with you on the importance of a good photographer

@yycbride2016 you're very welcome :) I never even explored how much it would be to bring a photographer down with us but I heard some can be quite reasonable. Definitely look into both options because the downward spiralling of our loonie is driving me nuts! I have a budget spreadsheet and it irks me so much to see how much our costs have increased because of the exchange rate! Here's hoping it goes up real soon....like today lol

@Wafflesmom

Ah I just read stuff about photographers travelling with you for weddings and having all of their equipment seized. I think there would be regulations on getting work permits and what not, which feels like a complete hassle to me. I just found a cute couple that are canadian doing photography around this area and i've reached out to them for a quote. Jasmin and Matt: http://www.jasminandmatt.com

Hey!

That price for Lancelotti is unreal. I'm pretty sure I saw his prices and it wasn't that good so @perianjay you did fantastic girl!!! @tygrrlily used him so maybe take a look for her planning thread and you can see some more of his work :)

@Wafflesmom. Ya that is a large jump!! I agree. Seems a bit unfair. All I can assume is that they brought their prices in line with what else is out there. When I did my research they were a lot cheaper than everyone else I researched.

If you can find a Canadian photog living in Mexico who would allow you to pay in CDN or peso, it may not be bad. Definately ask. Unless you can find that you won't beat the exchange rate disaster :(

I'm going to Vegas in 3 weeks and it kills me.

Here is her thread, her review is in her bookmark where I am sure most of the professional photos are.

Is their FB page!  The girl in the 'pin up' type shots is Perla, she is due in October so I assume would be back to shooting in Feb!!  Her husband also works(ed) for Adventure Photos as well. His name is Hazel. If you went this route, I have a lot of their work I can send to show you more than you may find on their FB page.

@yycbride2016 I'm bringing a photographer from home, so it's definitely an option. But hopefully you can find a great photographer based in Mexico at the right price (especially if they take CAD)!

What I understand from reading up on the rules and speaking with my photographer (she does a few destination weddings a year), is that they can't bring their entire photography kit into the country like they would have at a local wedding. As long as they bring 1 camera and maybe 1 extra lens then they do not require a work permit and are not considered a "professional photographer" working in the country. This will limit their ability to take pictures exactly the way they would like to (where they might want to change lenses throughout the day as the lighting and locations change), but I don't think it's significant difference in the quality of the pictures.

Good luck with your search!
