@@maria1488 thanks! I got the smaller ones. The big ones are actually really big in my opinion. They would be really hard to travel with. I really like the Size of the ones I got actually and think they will be really cute on the tables and down the aisle.

Its been a while since I've been on here. I've been so busy with life that I haven't done much wedding related.

This weekend we attended the wedding of some friends out in the mountains. It was a beautiful ceremony and really fun reception. It really brought to life all the things that we haven't thought about doing,. such as how to organize who goes up to eat first, music, speeches, etc. Unfortunately for me my fiance loved the idea of custom vows after hearing this couple do it. Now I will have to write my own. Something I dread. I will either laugh so hard that its embarrassing (I struggle in serious moments), or I will cry so hard that I will ruin my makeup. So I will have to find the sweet spot I suppose. Now I will have to work on that.

Not to mention the fact that all of our friends are very excited for our wedding now. As mentioned previously we are having an at home reception for those people who couldn't make it to mexico (which is quite a few people, like 70 people). I originally only wanted a small cocktail party with just appetizers, beer, and wine. No dance, no nothing special. Unfortunately, everyone is expecting a party now. Even family have been asking if we are having a party with dancing.

Today I changed our hall rental from a 70 person capacity to a 200 person capacity because we were cutting it close. This doubled the cost of the rental. Now we are exploring food options and music options. I have actually started getting excited about it all because my fiance is helping me out with some ideas and now that his mum is retired she is offering to help plan it for us. For food I have come up with such a fun, cheap way of feeding all of our guests... A taco bar and a tortilla chip bar! I'm so excited. These are some of the ideas we have:

I also want to do cupcakes and cookies for desert. Lots of ideas but I want to keep this entire party under $3000 Cdn.

I have readjusted my to do list and it really got significantly longer after attending this wedding. But I think thats probably a good thing. I think most of the work is coming into the At home reception and not as much into the DW. So I'm feeling really good about how the planning is going!

I love the taco bar idea! Sounds like it will be so fun! When are you planning your AHR for?

So cute that your fiancé wants to do the custom vows :)

The taco bar is a great idea. I also LOVE tacos :)

I wouldn't worry so much about who eats first. It'll be you then the WC will prompt the other tables.

For speeches we just asked people to give them a heads up. The MC knew and passed the microphone around. Then the odd other one jumped in. This was right as we entered and before we ate.

For music I just had my special songs picked and given to the WC otherwise I let the DJ handle it. If you aren't using the DJ I know @@TinkerSofi had an app and picked her whole playlist. She may have some tips!

You are doing great!

Ps - also fear the vows. So thankfully my husband did too!! But looking back I wish maybe we had done a version of them as all I said was 'I do'

Ooh I love the taco bar idea. Actually I love the tortilla chip bar even more...I love my chips I saw your pics from the wedding and it looked like so much fun. I can't believe you've had to change the capacity to 200. That's great though that so many ppl want to celebrate with you guys! You must feel so loved.

And as for vows, I'm still trying to convince Der that we should do them. I hate public speaking and it terrifies me too but I think they would be so meaningfull. Der is already terrified about being the center of attention and had already mentioned needing ativan to calm down lol. He got terrified watching my brother get married because it dawned on him that he would have to do the same. So right now my main concern is keeping my loving groom from fainting or puking! Lol once I figure that out, we'll revisit the vows ;)

It sounds like I've made the right choice in doing the taco and tortilla chip bar. I think our guests will love it just as much as you ladies do! Hopefully it wont be too much work to put together. I don't want anyone to feel stressed out on the day.

@@deecol its definitely cute that he wants to do our own vows but it makes me so nervous haha. I'm not a good speaker and even worse when it comes to saying my feelings haha.

@@calgarybride2015 Thanks! I appreciate your input. The wedding we went to played a game to see who would go up to eat first, but I suppose when there are only a few tables it doesn't matter. They had like 12 tables. As for music, we are going with the DJ because we don't really have any other options. But I'm happy with that choice. I think if there's as few songs we really want played we will make a list and go with it but otherwise i'll just leave it up to the dj and i'm sure giving a few song preferences will help guide the dj into what kind of music we like.

@ I know. I'm fearing I will wait till the last minute to write the vows. I wrote my made of honor speech at my sisters wedding the night before haha. Hopefully I will do a better job this time.

@@Wafflesmom hahaha I don't mean to laugh at your FI but I read that comment out to my fiance and told him that will be me. I will faint or puke saying our vows. It makes me so nervous haha. I'm sure it will go good though. I will definitely be reading lots of examples online to come up with something awesome. My FI is really good at saying his feelings. Usually when I ask him why he loves me or what he loves most about me his answer always surpasses my answer by like 10 times. So I need to up my game haha.

Working on table arrangements while feeling very blah today. Thought I would snap a picture so that I can show the wedding coordinator. I think this is all I will bring for table arrangements to Mexico. Thoughts? post-283167-144296099536_thumb.jpgpost-283167-144296101564_thumb.jpg

And I think this is how the guest book message in a bottle will be set up. Thoughts? The chalkboard sign will actually say a message about signing the guest book for us to read on our first anniversary. post-283167-144296108645_thumb.jpgpost-283167-144296109806_thumb.jpg

Don't worry about laughing at Der, I tease him all the time about being so nervous! He's so nervous that I'm actually serious about him needing ativan! We're gonna have to do a test run first since he's never taken it before. Can you imagine if he doesn't react well to it and he's just a drooling zombie come wedding day? LOL

And I love your table arrangement! I love the coloured glass and they all go really well together! Are you going to use real tealight candles or the led battery operated ones? I'm just thinking that if it's windy, you may want to use the battery operated ones. And will you have a flower for the vase? I was thinking maybe even a single flower would be nice to add a pop of colour?

P.S. I hope you get well soon :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
