Yycbride2016 Grand Sirenis Planning Thread February 2016

Recommended Posts

I think all your arrangements will look great!!! The table I had my guestbook on was big enough for some pics of Shawn and I too., if that's something you wanted to add and/or have considered :)

I never even thought of all those details to be honest hahaha so thankfully the WC knew what to do. It will all be great, they follow whatever you want.

We are neighbors. I live right by Sherway too. Worse is that I work right in Heartland by the Michael's there.

haha oh no!  You get double hit!

They're opening the Sherway location on Oct 16th!

@@yycbride2016 LOVE the taco bar. Honestly, I would do this for our actual wedding reception if it was an option at the resort LOL. I have a serious love for tacos. And the centrepieces look great. Elegant but beachy. Agree that a single flower in the vase would be a nice touch. Are you already planning to do that?

@@calgarybride2015 Thats a great idea. We were just talking the other day how we wanted to incorporate our engagement photos into our wedding somehow. But now im starting to get concerned about how many things i'm bringing to mexico haha.

@@vancouverpetunia haha me too! I'd love to have a mexican food theme at the actual wedding. But I don't think thats an option. And I wasn't planning on adding a flower but thanks to @@Wafflesmom and your suggestion I went out and bought some fake white roses and tiny little flowers to add to each table in those vases! Great idea. I felt it needed something more and taller and I think that fits the bill.

@@deecol I just realized I never answered your questions, We are doing the AHR a week after getting back from Mexico. My parents don't live any where near (totally different continent haha) so we have a limited timeframe to have them be involved with everything. But I'm happy we aren't spacing them out too far. Plus then I might still have a tan for the AHR!

Yes! It starts to add up. My frames for the tables were actually double sided so I had a table number on one side and a picture on the other. Even just a couple wouldn't hurt space too much heheh I'm not helping am I?

@@calgarybride2015 I saw some frames at the dollarama that are plastic and I could put 2 photos in on either side. Those might not work and might not take up too much space. My fiance is going to kill me when it comes time to pack for the trip haha.

The ones I got were from Michael's. There had various colors. Ikea has a similar style but I believe theirs are only in white. Just pack behind a closed door hehehehe

Heartland is right around the corner from me and I also get into the one up on Argentia & Winston Churchill. Too many Michaels stores close by! Oh yeah - and the one in the US where we go. That one is really an ouch!

I think the taco bar is a super idea! I'm sure everyone will love it! I'm with @@calgarybride2015 I LOVE tacos! And chips. But it's and easy way for everyone to have fun with food and that kind of thing really lets people interact.

All of your DIY ideas are so great!! The glass is so pretty. I have the same table lanterns! lol We're such a small group I only needed two.

We had our AHR two weeks after we came home and it worked out perfectly so your timing will be great with a week. We just couldn't get the venue we wanted until the second week after, otherwise ours would have been a week after as well.

We're doing the vows because the regular ones don't fit for us, but I already know I'll be bawling. I read some of the cards I get from Doug and I cry so vows..... well I already know I'm in trouble lol Thank god there will only be 4 people watching me make an idiot of myself! lol

Long overdue update post:

Sorry everyone, I've been so MIA lately. I recently lost my job, went on a job hunt, and started a new job so my life has been pretty hectic lately. I've done next to no big wedding planning.

We have finally caved and let both of our parents pay for our AHR. We really didn't want any help paying for any part of the wedding but we realized it was important to our parents so we decided they could help with this. My future mother in law has been amazing with planning everything. I sat down with her told her all my plans and numbers and what not. Really we didn't want anything big because it's not our actual wedding day but like mentioned before, after attending a friend's wedding a lot of our friends and family are expecting a full on wedding reception. We were originally just doing a small cocktail party. Our numbers grew out of control so we had to change our hall reservation to a larger room :S Because the cost of having a lot more guests than expected has gone up I am actually really thankful for the help in planning and paying for this portion of our wedding.

Photographer:

We finally settled. We were going to go with the lesser known photographer Elena Fedorova. But when she sent us her contract it was so intimidating. We wouldn't own any of our photos or have the rights to print them. She was a big no for us. We settled on Lancelotti and I'm so happy we did! My biggest concern was being able to get all the events covered in only 4 hours but we agreed this was best and my parents told us they wanted to pay for 2 hours of videography! This is fantastic because we didn't even consider video footage. I will start working with Juan soon to get ideas and work on the timelines!

Wedding shoes!!!

I finally found a pair of wedding shoes!

post-283167-144493400329_thumb.jpg

I found them at Aldo this weekend on sale! They didn't have my size so I had to order online and because I'm trying on my dress on Saturday I wanted to have the shoes with me. I express shipped them and then when they arrived yesterday I got a pink pair of ballet flats haha. Not my wedding shoes! I'm hoping the replacement pair will arrive tomorrow just in time for my dress fitting.

Dress fitting:

OMG!!! You have no idea how stressful this process has been. So if you can remember back to my dress purchase. I got an amazing deal in my dress (~$1000 for a $2200 dress). The reason I got the deal was because the store was closing down. And the seamstress who worked there said she could do my alterations by the end of the summer for $300 and then get the lace up cleaned for $80. Great! Right?! You would think. I called the week before the store closed to (aug 31) to see if I could pick it up before then. She said no that she would bring it to her home to do and have it ready in a month. So I was calling at the end of September and early October. She doesn't like to answer her phone. She responds to missed calls via text. It's really weird. And she's got horrible English that makes it super hard to figure out what she is texting to me. Basically, yesterday I had a stressful morning fighting with her to make sure my dress would be ready Saturday because I have to drive 4 hours to go and get it with my future mother in law. She won't tell me where I can pick it up or anything. I'm so stressed. And it doesn't help that my fiancé said to me that she probably sold it on eBay. Haha. He since realized that was the wrong thing to say and has been helping me figure out what's going on now. So basically wish me luck on Saturday and let's home I actually have a dress and that its in one piece. I also hope the shoes work with the dress. The seamstress said I could have about 2 inch heals and my new shoes are supposedly 3.5 inches!

I will let you girls know how it goes on Saturday!

Hey girl!

Don't worry, I am living in a full stress zone too. Even getting hives from all the planning.

Our finally payments were due today, and we now have 58 guest - holy hell. We though maybe 50, but the number keeps climbing.

I have really been debating lately a videographer. It is so expensive, and the prices I'm getting are all in USD - which you ladies know is not great for us Canadians. What do you guys think of videography? In the grand scheme I would love to have those memories captured and edited. But I would also love to have an extra $2000 for our honeymoon, etc.

I have so much planning to do. We are around the 80 day mark and things are getting REAL. I wish someone would take the reigns. My fiancé literally wants no part of planning, but I'm a control freak so it doesn't bother me too much. It's just a lot to take on yourself.

Also - other grand Sirenis brides, how do you decide on table overlays and such? All the colours:options they send may not look the same in real life. I'm afraid of all my colours clashing and looking cheap (cheap yellow gold look versus light champagne). Ugh.. I just want it all to be planned and done. It gets really exhausting.

We are also considering not doing favours (other than thank you cards). An extra $500-$700 that potentially could go towards videographer, for something people may not even use/notice?

Thoughts?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
