Oh ouch. Yeah - I hear ya. Definitely. Do you ever watch the David Tutera show on tv? Even his website says "affordable" wedding gowns. Maybe. Just not for the average bride. lol But his styles are GORGEOUS!!!!!!! I wish I could afford one! lol Oh well.

I think all those are amazing choices. Out of the ones you tried I like #1 and 2 the best :)

Be careful with JJ house. I was looking at a wedding gowns nightmare website and they were on their "avoid" list I believe, but i'm not sure if it was on the avoid list or the good list. I tried to go back and find the website to make sure but I couldn't find it. I think there's actually a thread on here where brides recommend online retailers. That might be a good place to start. For me, I just felt more comfortable trying the dresses on before buying one, but a friend got hers online and she was happy with it :)

We seem to be pretty similar in size so I'm sure you can find a sample gown on sale that will fit you :), just like I did.

OMG I love you in all three of those dresses!

I wonder if David's would have something similar but at a more decent price point!

I think I looked into JJ's House but was nervous to order online from another country. Def. do some research on here too because there are a lot of thread about online ordering. Your mom's came from this one too right?

I know it's very common for bridal stores NOT to allow you to take pics. I think more say no, than allow you too. kind of annoying I agree, but I guess I can see their side too.

I LOVE the first dress. Love love!!

I am sorry to hear about your dress shopping experience. They should not be rude to you. Every bride is different and they should feel lucky that you even came there! My budget was $1500 MAX and I told the consultant not to give me anything over that.

I am SURE that you can find something in that price point!! It will work out xoxo

For some reason, when I'm on my work computer I can't quote other people.  But I haven't run in to any problems (yet) with dress shop employees letting me take pictures.  I think I saw a sign once, but it wasn't enforced.  I guess each place is different.  But I was *definitely* stopped from taking pictures at Spence Diamonds.  So I just got sneaky about it.  I think pictures in this day and age really help people make their decisions!  I guess the theory is that you will find the dress online for cheaper.  That I can understand.

Thanks @@TinkerSofi. Yeah I think my favorites are #1 & #3. I will definately be using JJsHouse as an ultimate last resort if I really can't find anything. I don't like the idea of wearing a bridesmaids dress as I want the full bridal experiance. I'm not really a "simple" person. I love sparkle and flow and all that beautiful stuff that you get with wedding dresses. I've read some reviews from JJsHouse and its been very mixed. The only thing that draws me to it is the fact that my mum bought her mother of the bride dress there and its seriously gorgeous!

I'm going to Ethos in Edmonton on Sunday as they are having a closing clearance with up to 80% off dresses. I'm hoping I can find something sparkly and just amazing for really cheap! I asked if they had dress #3 there on sale and they said yes!! But only problem is its a size 10 and I feel like it would be expensive to be taken in to my size.

Thanks so much @@calgarybride2015! I've been checking out David's this week as my appointment is on the 3rd there. I've made a list of the dresses I love but only problem is whats online and whats in store are generally different and different prices. Also when we went for bridesmaids dresses with style numbers writted down, they didnt pull any for them and I even asked! So my hopes aren't high. But I'm feeling hopeful about being able to find a dress I love in my price range again.

Yeah it was strange, this store even said no phones allowed. The woman there I feel like was Polish or Russian or something and a very stern woman. My sister was too scared to even sneak a photo with her phone haha.

Thanks @@Smellsey! That was the last dress I tried on and it was $1400 + $450 alterations (the bottom is really complicated and each little piece had to be hemmed individually and I wanted a sweetheart neckline put in). Just way too out of my budget unfortunately :( I just can't justify spending this much on a dress that I'm going to wear once. I wish I had been on the ball and told the consultant right off the get go that I didn't want to spend any more than $1000, but unfortunately I got caught up in the moment. At the same time i'm glad it happened because I was able to find the style I liked and know I know what I'm looking for, whereas I wasn't sure going into it. I'm feeling more hopeful now that I've been looking around online and what not.

Strange @@JoannaBanana. Yeah it was a really weird place and they wouldn't even let you take your phone out. I told my sister to sneak a picture for me and she was too scared the lady would take her phone away haha. The lady was a stern older lady. Kind of intimidating so I don't blame her for not wanting to be sneaky haha. Its funny though becuase the first store let us take pictures and what I thought was my first pick from the day ended up being my 3rd after seeing the pictures. Just goes to show that you need to think about it and not make a decision on the spot. With that being said, I'm going to Ethos in Edmonton on Sunday for a closing clearance with up to 80% off and I know I will have to be decisive (something I'm not good at) and walk out with a dress if I want a good deal. Fingers crossed that they will have something in my price point that is absolutely goregeous with lots of sparkle haha.

Interesting on Spence.  I had the sales lady help me take pics, but it's possible because I already owned a ring and was trading it in?  Yes you can definitely be sneaky :)

@@yycbride2016 I do want to say that you will find David's Bridal is not like the boutique stores.  I found they had one on one and David's Bridal ladies are run thin.  The lady would grab things for me, but I found the boutiques would grab things that actually looked good as they have more experience. (could be because David's is fairly new in Calgary too) So definately have your girlfriends running around finding things for you as well -- that's how we found the one I bought.

That said, my dress was the same price online.   If you are on the 'shop online' part and choose Canada the prices should match. I agree though, not all the dresses are in store and if you have to search for them yourself it can be tricky. Just be firm you need the ladies help. Mine was pregnant so maybe she was just having an off day.  We came back for the BM attire she was much more attentive, although it was very slow then.

Good luck, can't wait to hear about it.

@JoannaBanana  I have the same issue at work. Can't quote anyone. I just the "@" sign with the user name instead and it works. it has to do with firewall stuff from what I understand. Pain in the backside if you ask me.... lol

@yycbride2016  Any luck with the pre-owned wedding dresses site I gave you? I check there every day just to see what's new! And I got a message last night from Jennifer at TLMB and she said my dress is on its way!!!! Now I'm hoping she has kept it in my budget too!!! Fingers crossed for you!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
