Yycbride2016 Grand Sirenis Planning Thread February 2016

I love al of the decor you've picked up!!! You have great taste and everything is perfectly coordinated. You've come up with great deals at Michaels. I won't lie but I had a big urge to go there after reading your post lol. It was a lot of self control that stopped me

As for your bridesmaid issue, I'm sorry to hear one is so reluctant to book. I agree that the $150 deposit seems like it's not that much and your generous offer of reducing her total cost is such a nice gesture. Perhaps a heart to heart with her will need to be done. Maybe you should be direct with her and have her make a decision already. Perhaps she has other reasons and just doesn't want to disappoint you.

I saw some of those lanterns at Superstore for a dollar more than IKEA. They don't appear to have the white ones bu they had a mint color. I think my parents have a really large one for out in their back yard. I am thinking of using my lanters twice, once to line the wedding aisle (inside will be starfish and sand), and then again as table centerpieces. They are perfect!

And as for the bridesmaid issue, I think you're right. I think I just need to wait it out until it comes time to order the bridesmaids dresses and then confront her with that tough question. Hopefully it wont ruin our friendship :S

Thanks! I love my decor already and want to put it around my house haha. Yeah its a tricky situation us DW brides are in. We want everyone to be able to come, especially our closest friends and family. It's surprising to find out who says they'll come and who actually puts down their deposits. At Christmas a lot of my fiances family said they would come, but only his parents and brother actually paid. Everyone else declined and I feel bad for my fiance. I think he was pretty bummed out to hear that. At least all his groomsmen booked without any issues. Which my bridal party would be easy too haha.

Thanks! I'm excited to see how it will all come together. I put off going to michales for the longest time. All I wanted there was the wedding bubbles, but boy I brought home a lot more than I intended. At least everything was either 50% or 70% off! My fiance definately appreciates that I try and find the best deals to save us money while still getting everything "we".. (I) want haha.

Thanks for the advice on my bridesmaid. I think I need to upfront ask her if she is going to come as well. I'm nervous and I dont want my "backup bridesmaid" to feel offended if I ask her to stand up front with me last minute. As much as I want my original bridesmaids up there with me, I wouldn't be offended if finacially or what ever it might be, she just can't come. I just appreciate when people are upfront and honest with me. The reason I actually picked her was because she is always upfront and honest, and never flackey. Its really strange, so I think something must be going on that she wont share with me (which is totally fine, and I respect that). Hopefully when I confront her and mention only $150 deposit, potentially $500 off her trip, plus i'm paying $20 for her dress (she's plus size and it costs more so i'm covering that cost for her), hopefully all that will entice her and she will just book.

Quick update for everyone! The sample bridesmaids dress came in....it's AMAZING!! I will take some pictures tomorrow and post! The color is a little more green than I was thinking but at this point if it matches the tie samples I ordered then I'll be good to go! I highly recommend the convertible dress though!!!

Ok, here is my review on the teal convertible dress on Etsy...

I absolutely love it. It is such a versatile dress and I really do believe that it will suit most body types. It's a little tricky to tie at first but I think I've figured out at least 4 ways to tie it on my own. I think it would be easiest if you have a second person helping.

I got the long maxi dress and I feel like it has a really elegant feel to it. Perhaps the shorter one would give a more beach/ summer feel.

The material is a bit heavy but it feels so soft and silky. It feels like really good quality.

It's a little too long for me so if I wasn't wearing heals I'd probably get the bottom hemmed. (I'm only 5'1" so it would be great for an average height). I'm also quite small and the skirt part had to be held up while I was tying it but really that wasn't an issue at all. But it could really fit a range of sizes and heights so it's amazing for that reason. (Also great if you lose or gain weight, it will pretty much always fit). This also means the bridesmaids wouldn't need to get any alterations done!

Also it comes with a matching bandeau for extra coverage and it would make it easy to wear a strapless bra with it then!

Color: it did appear a little more green then blue unfortunately. I was hoping it would be exactly like the advertised picture but it was slightly more green. Interestingly enough this dress and one from a different seller on etsy are using the exact same material and color as their teal dress. The two sellers are:

Thedaintyard (Singapore seller)

Dresslongbridal (China seller)

The dress from thedaintyard appears quite green and like it has a higher quality to its fabric. However I had previously ordered color samples from them and now I have compared it to the dresslongbridal dress that I got, they are the exact same color and fabric. (Don't judge a dress by its listing picture haha)

On that note I'm going to order a blue, Tiffany blue, and turquoise color sample to see if any of those match my color before making a decision. I love this dress too much to say no to it. I have 3 different tie color samples coming in and I hope I can make a match with one of them.

Here are some pictures of the dress styles (ignore the fact that my hair is a mess and what not):

Ohhhhh I love it. And the one wear you've twisted it up your back is fantastic! My fave!

Hopefully you get a color as close as you'd like. Remember too unless the same person is wearing the items that a slight color variance won't be noticed. Ie the ties and dresses don't have to match 100%!

Can't wait to hear what color your chose.

I wanted to respond previously to your bridesmaid issue but was always on my phone. Long responses can be daunting while on your phone!

Any headway with this?    I didn't have the same situation, but a girl who I thought was my bestfriend, whom I was considering paying to come to Mexico to be with us, didn't even want to talk to me about my wedding.  Our relationship basically fell apart, and it was evident she had no interest. I called her out on it, thought we made amends, but alas we didn't. I haven't spoken to her in over a year, and as much as it hurt at first. I am happy it turned out the way it did. I have been fostering the relationships of the people who were happy for me, some who were so involved when I never realized would care.  Just goes t to show who your real friends are.

That said, again not the same situation!     I think you definately need to have a frank conversation with her.  Being sensitive but to the point.  At some point you need to know 100% what she is doing because 1. you need to get their dresses and such 2. gifts 3. ask another bridesmaid if you wish 4. have a confirmed guest list, etc.

It seems you have been more than willing to offer her as much as you can to make her life easy and she isn't biting. There must be something larger going on that she isn't comfortable telling you about.   I would wait a bit longer until you need to order the dresses (ie the sample swatches come in) and /or wait and see if she gives you something you can use as an opener to bring it up.

How as your relationship been otherwise? is she in Calgary, if yes, is she going dress shopping with you? is she open to discussing your wedding and helping out?  These were tell tale signs for me, my friend had no interest whatsoever.  Would you like to come dress shopping Sunday at 2pm? I may have plans.  Oh what time?  3pm.  OK we can go at 11am, would that work? never heard back! ugh!

Good luck.

I love the dress! Wow! I'm not sure which is my favourite - I like all of them!! You make it look so easy! But I can see where it would be body flattering for just about any body type! That's an interesting colour too and I agree it seems to look more green than what I would consider teal.

Just a quick word of warning. I didn't see anyone here mention it but Mexico has rules about taking sand from the beach. With the hurricanes they get and beach erosion, it has become sort of a protected deal. If you're filling vases someone might see you and I would hate for you to get your heart set on something and then have someone ruin it all for you. Why don't you email your coordinator and ask her about it. It sucks to have to cart sand with you but that may be the only way to do it unless your WC can help you out somehow. Not sure how far you are from playa del carmen but there's a big Walmart there that might sell the coloured sand that you might be able to make use of instead.

Good luck!!

Thanks, I'm so in love with this dress. I just need to decide if I give this one to a bridesmaid or keep it for myself. Not really sure (besides on holidays or fancy dinners) when I would wear it. I will definately buy this dress in black and shorter version because its seriously so amazing! It exceeded my expectations.

About the bridesmaid dilema... Thanks fo ryour imput. We unfortunately dont live in the same city. She lives in Edmonton so its not easy to chat all the time. She hasn't started her new job yet it doesn't sound like so I can understand wy money would be tight then. But I still feel like she's keeping something from me. The cherry on the cake was last week when she went to the Shania Twain concert and I know she got the best seats and spent over $800 on 2 tickets for her and her bf. I was really shocked because for a girl who can't afford a $150 deposit, how can she afford tickets at that price!!! Makes no sense. But who knows maybe I'm just unfairly judging her.

She's definately helpful when it comes to asking her wedding questions. I really only ask her about bridesmaid dress styles (which she is really picky). But other than that I haven't really asked her much about the wedding. I more so focus on my MOH (my sister). I don't want to bog all my bridesmaids down with all my little wedding details. Plus my other bridesmaid is in Europe on vacation right now and just got engaged whilst there so I know that she wont be much help once she returns since she will be probably planning her own wedding.

Once my tie samples come in and more dress samples if thats what i decide to do then I have to make my decision on this bridesmaids dress (a.k.a which color of it because I'm already sold on the style). When it comes time to purchasing the dress I'm going to straight up ask her if she is 100% certain she will be there as a bridesmaid. And if she isn't 100%sure I may unfortunately have to drop her so I can ask a different friend who I already know has booked and would love to be there for us. Its unfortunate when such a good friend can't just be open and tell me the truth but I get that sometimes its hard to.

Hopefully I'm just over-exagerating things and blowing it all out of proportion and everythig will just sort itself out (soon hopefullly). hehe

@@acw271011 Thanks! The dress is so gorgeous and way better than I could have imagined. Its going to be exciting to see how each of my bridesmaids decide to tie it for the day! I was joking with my fiance about how much I love it and that I was going to order it in white as a wedding dress haha. But really if someone was going to have a really laid back beachy sytled wedding it would totally work because you could even change it up from ceremony to reception!

And...oh my gosh! Thank you for the warning! I will email my coordinater and ask her about this. I didnt intend on taking much sand since I'm really only putting a little bit in each of my lanterns with the starfish. My large vases will be used here for my At home reception because they are too heavy to carry to Mexico. And for that I will just buy sand at Home Depot or a craft store.

@@vancouverpetunia No worries, It's definatly a gorgeous dress and worth considering as a bm dress!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
