Hello ladies, has anyone ever brought or thinking of bringing a "fake cake" to take pictures with? I really don't like the look of the cake that our resort offers so I thought of bringing a fake cake with us? Suggestions? Thoughts?

I'm probably not a good person to answer, but carrying a fake cake down sounds inconvenient to me just for a photo opp. With such a gorgeous setting there will be plenty of other awesome pictures and memories!

But, honestly, the cake is easily the lowest on my priority list. I'm not even doing a cake topper or decorating the cake table - and I'm not planning to stop the party to formally do a cake cutting. As long as it is delicious (I do love to EAT cake) I don't care! :)

I don't like the cake options that they have given us, that's why I was thinking of bringing a fake cake. I too don't plan on stopping the party for cake cutting however, I do want the traditional pictures with the cake.

I think it's a great idea , my wedding was in February and the cake I picked looked nothing like the photos the resort had shown me.  Everyone will be too busy having fun to even notice the fake cake I'm sure :)

I think it fake cake could work, but it seems like you would still have to decorate it right? Or if it's pre-decorated, bringing it to your destination without worrying about it getting damaged, might be a hassle. If the cake options at your resort aren't up to your taste - can you ask them to do something simpler and maybe give them some inspiration photos? Perhaps just decorating it simply with just flowers?

Or, how about cake alternatives?!? Check out this article I posted here on the forum a few weeks ago -- cake doesn't have to be the only option :Phttp://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/wedding-tips/c/planning/5-wedding-cake-alternatives-you-your-gues-r2248

Hope that helps!! Let us know what you decide ;)

I think I am overthinking this whole cake thing....I guess us brides tend to do that. Although, I still think its a great idea, it may in fact be a hassle getting through the airport. Every bride that has gotten married at our resort, says the same thing about the cake. Its awful looking and even though you send them photos, it always turns out nothing like it. I have a specific vision I want for the cake and I will truly be disappointed if I end up with a very ugly one. After all, it will be in my wedding pictures for the rest of my life.

My resort made our cake nothing like the pictures. It was hideous. When it came out I was upset but now I laugh about it...it was crazy how wrong it was . I have so many other pics that it doesn't matter at all. It tasted delicious though!

Why don't you just get a plain white cake and bring a cake topper ? How bad could they get that?

I think a plain white cake with ribbon will be the way to go. I already have my cake topper. I think when they put colour they go a little nuts and that's what makes it look blah!

I don't know the policy for your resort, but what about the possibility of ordering from somewhere else and having it brought in? Again, I don't know your resort policy on outside vendors or charges or anything. I just wondered if its something you've considered.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
