home reception question...help!

Recommended Posts

For those who are not married:

I was just wondering if you are planning on putting your wedding dress during a home reception?

For those who are married:

Did you wear your wedding dress during your "home reception" and why?

I am getting married in December and I am having a small reception at a restaurant (35 people-- uncles + aunts since they are not coming to Mexico with us). The date is one week after we return (December 29th).

I was planning on putting my wedding dress even if it's very cold in Montreal in December! But tonight, my FI told me that he doesn't think it's a good idea... it might be a bit "takky" !

What do you think?

I am TOTALLY wearing my dress again!!! My AHR is going to be just like a regular reception! At 7:15 pm the guest will be seated and shown the video of the wedding in St. Thomas.... No one in the bridal party will be there.. We will be coming from the Catholic blessing... Right after the video is done, we will be introduced as if we are coming in from the wedding!! I am SUPER excited about wearing my dress agian... That way the Mothers and BMs get to wear their dress again too!

I feel like doing the same thing !

I am having a day reception (lunch)

I was thinking of telling the guests to arrive at 11:30 (appetizers + drinks), then us arriving at 12:00 (with my 2 kids) dress like the wedding day and then sit down to start the meal. After each service, I was planning on showing a slide show.

After the 1st course: the resort+ vacation pictures

After the 2nd course:us getting ready

After the 3rd course: the ceremony

Before desert: shock them with my TTD photo session!

So putting on the dress is still a good thing?

I am definitely wearing my dress for me AHR. For one, because I can and I want to, and two, because I do think a lot of the people who couldn't make the DW (which will be a majority of the AHR guests) will want to see me in the dress.

If the BM's and Mom's want to wear their same dresses, that's totally fine, but if not that's fine too. The AHR will be casual, so no worries on what anyone wears, but I am totally wearing my dress!

We are not big dancers so a lunch felt better than a supper...especially on December 29th... 4 days after X-Mas ! We will have the whole back part of the restaurant to ourselves. It has big windows, wood mouldings everywhere and a fireplace...hopefully there will be snow everywhere outside (last year, there was barely no snow in MTL at that time...).

We get home on a Saturday, and I wanted to to the reception the next Saturday since we will see all of the family members on Jan 1st + Jan 5th. I need to do the reception before all the holiday parties otherwise they will know all about the trip+wedding before the reception!

Ours is from 2-6pm (early, I know) at our restaurant/bar. We are closing the upstairs bar and rooftop deck for the AHR and opening it to the public at 6pm (didn't want to lose a whole night of money-making due to the AHR, so we decided to just do it early). The party will continue after 6, but at least it will be private until then.

You can see from the pic below of the rooftop deck how casual it is -- but we will put white tablecloths on the tables and centerpieces to dress it up a little bit!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
