Diadiamond's Planning Thread - Iberostar Varadero, Cuba - Sept.24.2015

Glad you got the officiant worked out :) 2 weeks is going to fly by!!

I love all your decor. I agree, my cake topper was a lot smaller than I thought it would be. With a few flowers it will still be fantastic.

Love the pics of the resort. As I've said before I love Cuba. So beautiful :)

I'd have your guestbook at your reception. That's generally where people have it :)

Ladies!  I'm leaving in less than 1 week, 6 days to be exact!  I can't believe how fast time is flying!  For some reason it's still not clicking with me, I'm unable to believe that this is really happening.  Sorry I've been so sparse with the updates, but I've been super busy.  Work has really picked up and some major changes are happening so it's been all hand on deck at work trying to figure everything out.  It also doesn't help that a few other assistants have quit so the extra work has fallen on everyone else.

I've seen a lot of brides work up until they leave and I honestly don't know how they do it.  I'm so exhausted by the time I get home and do my regular daily chores I barely have time to do any planning.  I'm leaving next Saturday and my last day at work is Tuesday, so I'm hoping that having 3 days off before we leave is enough time for me to get everything together.  Also, every time I come back from vacation I get sick so I took an additional two days off to recover and spend some time with my soon to be hubby.

I feel accomplished this week as I was able to:  write my speeches, write my vows, finish my playlist and put it on my iPod, make a list of questions to ask the wedding coordinator, hand out the last of my favours, give out all of the bridesmaids/groomsman gifts, and pick up last minute items.

I ended up buying a travel steamer to bring with me.  Did any past brides find it helpful?  I think I paid around $30 for it from Walmart.

I was going through my planning thread earlier and realized that I totally forgot to put up my website.  My fiance is in IT and having a website was really important to us, so we used WIX to create our website.  It's really user friendly.  I know almost nothing about computers and I found it really easy to use when I had to do updates and everything.  It did cost us quite a bit for a 2 year subscription (I believe it was around $100).  I don't think anyone really visited our website, so if I were to do it all over again I might skip the website and maybe create a page using social media or even send a newsletter to everyone.

Thank you so much for your kind comments about my decor.  I am planning on also having some flowers just to spice up my space a bit and really hammer in the point that a wedding will take place.  I will definitely update before I leave.

Anyways ladies I am off to start packing!

Good for you for taking extra time too!!! I also left Saturday and only took the Friday off. I just tied up lose ends and relaxed. Thankfully my job wasn't overwhelming at the time. 6 days will fly by I'm sure of it. Just remember as you plug away late at night that the light at the end of the tunnel is within your grasp now :) I can't wait to hear all about it.

Travel steamer was one of the best things I brought!!! Closet on plane was only a half closet so my dress was a mess. As was the bridal party's dresses and shirts. It got ALOT of use. I wasn't paying for the resort to steam as it was $160 US for my dress NOT! You'll be glad to have it :)

Yay! You're getting so close now! I so can't wait to hear all about it when you come back! It will definitely fly by, and taking a few days before you leave was a super smart idea, plus a couple on the return side as well.

All 3 locations look really pretty. It will all be beautiful, I'm sure. Love the flower ball! And the other decor bits will be perfect!

We had a steamer in Jamaica and it was invaluable and plan to take it to Mexico too. You will definitely appreciate having it because as @@calgarybride2015 said, the resorts charge a fortune for steaming.

You're on the same schedule we were! lol - We left on Saturday, got married on Thursday and came home Saturday. it definitely does fly by! Make sure you take some time to look around and take it all in. Deep breaths! It will all be gorgeous!!

We are trying to decide on our flights. We will be flying to Fort Lauderdale prior to getting on our cruise. Do you ladies think it would be better to have more time at home or in Fort Lauderdale? I plan for Tuesday to be my last day of work. We will fly on Thursday or Friday and arrive in Fort Lauderdale around 10pm, then our guests will arrive Saturday evening and we will get on the cruise on Sunday. Would it be better to have Wednesday and Thursday at home and about a half day to go shopping and do last minute things in Fort Lauderdale or would it be better to fly on Thursday, then have all day Friday to get things done?

@cruisebride2016  I'm not sure what it is you need to "get done" in Ft Lauderdale before you embark unless it's thing related to your wedding. For me, the time at home to pack and have a bit of down time before you fly would be appreciated. Just my opinion.

@@acw271011 Thanks for your thoughts! I'm not quite sure what we need to get done either. We plan to get snacks, wine and water to bring on the cruise, and maybe pick up appetizers for a cocktail hour that first night. Also, we will need to put together the out of town bags either in Fort Lauderdale or the first day of the cruise. I think I just needed some back up from others to convince my fiance that flying on Friday will give us plenty of time :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
