Help! I Was Diagnosed With Pcos

Recommended Posts

@@MrandMrsBonitto2016 Thanks for the tip hun!  I'll definitely check it out.

Thanks for all the advice hun!  I feel like I have so much to learn still, but I'm happy to hear that I can still have a normal life and do the things that I want to do, especially having kids.  I also had my period for a whole month when I was 13, I was off of school for two weeks because of it, but the doctors didn't do anything for me and pretty much just told me to wait it out.

Former PCOS here. And I have 2 boys, both 33 (they're 10 and a half months apart in age and for 6 weeks every year they're the same age between April 20th and May 27th). I will be honest and say that I did have trouble with the first getting pregnant, but then the second was super quick. I wasn't diagnosed until I was nearly 40. Get lots of information and a doctor that you trust and are comfortable with. I was like you - I would have a cycle every 6 to 9 months. I was put on the pill in my teens to try and settle things down but I had constant yeast infections from being on the pill. You have to remember though I was on the pill back in the 70's so things have changed a lot since then. I don't know if they even knew about PCOS back then. Absolutely being overweight will be a hindrance to getting pregnant as well, and it most definitely is healthier for mom and baby if you're able to get the weight off. If you're weight is a concern now and you gain pregnancy weight it could mean extra health risks for both you and baby. It's good advice from your doctor but maybe not exactly realistic without backing it up with other advice. Absolutely if @calgarybride can get written info for you, that just may put your mind at ease.

You're definitely not alone. I think there are more women with this condition than is realized. Good luck and keep us posted.

@@acw271011 Thank you for sharing your experience and your advice I really do appreciate it! Thanks for the support.

I always knew that my weight was a problem, but I guess I was in denial for a while as I didn't think I was unhealthy.  It was definitely a hard pill to swallow when my doctor told me how much weight I needed to lose.  It was a huge wake-up-call for me, but I know that I definitely need to do something.

Since I got my diagnoses last week I've made major lifestyle changes.  I now am careful with what I eat, so I'm sticking to a lower calorie diet.  I also eat more veggies and limit my carbs, dairy, and fruit.  I've been very sedentary for the last year, so I started going for 30-60 minute walks everyday to get some exercise.

that's great! Keep up with the changes and the positive attitude. If you fall off the wagon, like most of us do at some point, just get back up and keep on going!

Awesome changes. I second what @@TinkerSofi said. I fall off lots but I get back on!

I have some handouts for you. I can scan and email them? I chose the patient centered ones but if you want more info I can get the doctor centered ones too. If you would like them just PM me your email.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
