  • 2 weeks later...

I have my wedding booked for May 5, 2016 on the beach. I just found out that we need to know exactly how many rooms I need to block, with a deposit for each room, length of stay, which rooms the guests want etc..... I may have 70 guests. I think this is a lot to ask from guests a year before th wedding. Did this happen to any of you? And also it does take a while to hear back from the resort. But I hear the place is amazing & can't wait to start picking all the options

Congratulations!!!

My wedding is on January 23, 2016 and I started my planning and contacting the resort and travel agent October 2014. I booked my wedding through the resort and I browsed around with travel agent. I suggest after confirming your date, contact a travel agent so you can work on a group rate and perhaps gets some sort of incentive for having 70 guests. I started with a room block of 15 rooms that we paid for and now I have 30 rooms blocked. The cost for any additional room blocks we needed were covered by the deposits from the rooms that were reserved by our guests. Our immediate family I knew for sure were staying with us for 7 days and the rest of our guests I did a room block of just guessing how many nights they will be staying. At least 3 nights to 5 nights and ofcourse they can just extend or upgrade their room category as they want, they just have to contact my travel agent and she does the rest. Hopefully this info helps.

Happy planning! :)

Hi Ladies,

I'm leaving for DRC tomorrow morning for a site visit and food tasting. Can't wait! So excited, but very unprepared. So, if any ladies would like to share any questions that you have been thinking about it might help me figure out what I need to ask them -and of course I will post answers. :)

Claudia asked me to bring my planning form, but I sooo don't have that finished cause I just can't make up my mind about a lot of things. I'm hoping the visit will fix that. I'm thinking I will print some pictures from my wedding inspiration board from Pinterest so she has a better idea -or at least help me have a better idea. lol

I had a vision all set in my head, but that all changed when I fell in love with my wedding dress that I found. Now I'm just completely lost and it doesn't help my indecisiveness. lol

Wish me luck. ;)

@@desmiv ahh!! So exciting! Im totally with you on not knowing what to want!! I feel like when you get there youll just see the things verses seeing images of everything and it will help with selecting. I'm going this sept. and i also was advised to fill the sheet out. and im still stuck haha!! So im feeling your pain.LOL  I think bringing images will be so helpful!! That way if you dont have the sheet filled out, she will atleast have an idea of your style and your vision. have you selected the items you want to taste? I cant think of any questions now AHHHH. But i will love to hear your feedback and how it all went when you return!!

@@racht33 my site visit was interesting -yup Tropical storm from hell....

Unfortunately for the resort, I feel like it didn't give them much of a fair chance to really show their true\full potential. I will say the restaurants were very good, staff was amazing/helpful/friendly, rooms were very clean and beautiful.

My concerns were the lack of entertainment because of the monsoon (seriously it felt\looked like a monsoon), the seaweed epidemic on the beach and the fact that it could rain that much on our wedding day. :( It had me soo very upset that I was actually considering moving to a whole new island\location. However, based on several factors we've decided to gamble and keep the venue where it is.

Our WC, Claudia was a sweetheart. Very knowledgeable and helpful with ideas. She answered pretty much all my questions. She did say some things I wasn't too happy with. Like, they are not allowing anyone to bring fake flowers to the resort. Not that I was going to, but if I wanted that option then I should have it. I think I was more put off by her explanation of why.

The tasting went well. My FI and I were pleased with it. I actually forgot to ask to do a tasting of the wedding cake, but she made it happen last minute. I loved that she was so accommodating.

@@desmiv I'm not at DRC, nor am I planning to use fake flowers, but have to ask... What is their reasoning for this? I get not using fake petals as they could blow around and become pollution. But bouquets?

My guess would be something very simple - it cuts into their profits. As sad as it is, the resorts are out to make money. They have preferred suppliers and companies that they recommend. If they have brides trying to get around things by doing something like bringing in their own bouquet, guess what? That cuts into the money making.

When we got married 4 years ago in Jamaica, we had our photographer and our video guy. I used the recommended florist but there was another option that some of the brides used. I didn't pay any fees for anything. I've since heard that the resort now charges $800 to bring in a photographer and any other off site vendor. The resort was wonderful and we loved it but some of the reviews I'm reading now just make me shake my head. It's a business and they all want a piece of it. I'm so happy that we're going off site for our renewal. I'm getting to do what I want, with who I want and I'm really happy about that. But i also know if we were a big group it would be a lot harder to do.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
