Affordable But Elegant Wedding Resorts?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was wondering which resorts/chains in Riviera Maya tend to be most affordable for a wedding. I am looking at 50-75 guests, with private reception/dinner in one location, so things are getting pricey. Would like a family friendly resort.

As far as ceremony, I just want some privacy so people aren't running around in their speedos right next to us, but otherwise I feel flexible on whether its on the beach/garden, etc. Kind of picky on location of reception, I don't want it on the beach, but I'm fine with a either a really pretty restaurant/hall, or half open restaurant/gazebo near pool/beach type of place -- I just want it to be more on the elegant than beachy side, but an integration of both the outdoors/destination and elegant would be most ideal.

I feel like it is very hard to compare the resorts, as certainly the base package price on websites is completely different from what it all ends up costing once you take into account the large wedding size and private reception. Also, looking for somewhere that will let us keep the party going after an 11pm cut off time.

Sorry -- I know this is a lot of requirements, but I figured I would ask because I am going crazy trying to compare everything and maybe someone has been in the same boat!

Also open to Punta Cana. Hard Rock and Palace would be awesome by me, but my other concern is guest travel expenses and I feel like while they run cheaper for the wedding couple, they are more expensive for guest travel? Am I wrong? (Looking at Now/Riu/Barcelo/Iberostar price range for guest travel, perhaps I am missing some good options!.. Hard Rock and Palace seem to run 200-300$ more/person for guest travel)

I married at the Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya. We had the ceremony on a private beach that had a palapa for the reception right there. You can have your reception until 6am if you wanted to pay. I took the free package (free with 10 double rooms booked for 7 nights) and upgraded to this location ... then had the extra add ons that suited me. Lots of what you say I can see in this resort - worth checking out :) Not sure if all my links show up below or not (on my phone) but you can see my planning thread, wedding pics and review. If it doesn't I will make sure to post them for you. Good luck.

We just signed with the Moon Palace and what I like about this resort is the private gazebo.

We also looked at Azul http://www.memorablemomentsweddings.com/Karisma-weddings.cfm that has private decks or gazebo

The Royalton also has a private area for wedding ceremony http://www.royaltonresorts.com/en/riviera-cancun/destination-weddings.aspx

Paradisus Playa del Carmen has the beautiful Gabi bridge that they close off for your ceremony http://www.paradisus.com/romance-weddings.php

I have done a lot of research so feel free to reach out and I can try to help.

Good luck!

Hello OL88,

Riviera Maya has a lot of good family friendly resorts with your requirements , have you considered Hacidenda tres Rios, see below what they offer, really most of my clients love this hotel.

The hotel is located 30 minutes from Cancun airport.

In the hotel you can have the reception and ceremony in many places, such as:

• Pier

• Terrace

• Cenote

• Beach

• Ball Room

• Near the pool

This is an All Inclusive Hotel. For a private event $25 USD is charged per guest and this includes the following:

• Private area which could be on the beach, Ball room or hotel terraces

• Private dinner

• Open bar for 4 hours + 1 hour cocktail.

• Chairs avant garde type, round tables, white tablecloths and napkins

• Dishes, silverware and glassware.

For everything else you have to hire an outside vendor, we have a list of those who normally work with and trust them 100%.

Feel free to email us for any questions you may have,

Happy Planning!

@@OL88 we choose Azul Fives for a variety of reasons - lots similar to what's on your lists. Number one for me was affordability for our guests, number two was a beautiful, private and unique setting for our ceremony and reception and finally, great food. Take a peak if you haven't already. I think resort may be a good fit.

PS. We're all so biased. We all want to think our resort is number one :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
