Flowers

I LOVE flowers, so this is one area I am somewhat willing to splurge. That said, I don’t want to go too crazy. I do have some flowers included in my package, including: bridal bouquet, 2 corsages, 3 boutonnieres, and 1 centerpiece. I don’t think I will use the corsages, but I can apply the value of them towards other elements.

I’m considering peacock colors, although I'm not looking to do a peacock theme. I’m hoping to have a very tropical-looking bouquet, which often would mean warm colors like yellow, pink, orange, etc., but those were my sister’s wedding colors and I don’t really want to repeat them! Plus, my bridesmaids won’t really look good in those colors.

So I was thinking blue and green orchids to achieve the tropical aspect, and then adding in some white and purple touches. I love calla lilies as well, so that would be nice. Something like these:

bouquet 1

(but no feathers)

bouquet 2

bouquet 3

(add more green)

My other idea is to incorporate some citrus into the mix, specifically limes (and have a signature margarita to match!). So, possibly including some limes in the bouquets like this (ignore flowers/colors):

bouquet 4 citrus

bouquet 5 citrus

I’d also like to use limes on the tables and on the cake, maybe combined with some individual vases with single stems to match the bouquets on the tables. Something along these lines:

centerpiece 1

centerpiece 2

table 2

table 1

centerpiece 4

centerpiece 3

cake 1

All that said, I’ve contacted my WC with my ideas, which he says he really likes, but has told me that the green orchids are “premium” and will increase my costs and that blue orchids aren’t available locally but they can paint white orchids blue. That might be an option, as some other brides have said they’ve done it and it’s fine, but I’ve also asked the WC if the florist can provide some other suggestions for blue & green flowers that are naturally available and hopefully not at additional cost.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, I would love to hear them!

I have a lot of blue in my decor as well but I'm using a softer blue. I'm using light blue delphiniums which I know are available locally in Mexico as they were not an extra cost to my bouquet. They come in a variety of blues with some more vibrant than others. They might be an option.

Haven't heard back from the WC/florist yet, but did find a list of flowers that indicates what is available locally, general price point, etc. Not sure if it is accurate as it notes delphiniums as being "$$$ pre-order 30 days, spring/summer" despite the post from @@snswedding2016. But worth reviewing anyhow. I'm adding it here so I don't lose it.

@@vancouverpetunia sorry! I totally thought they were local and readily available they way they are listed in my options for our wedding package. I assumed since it wasn't an upgrade in my package that the delphiniums were local flowers. I wonder if the time of year has anything to do with it for us. Or maybe my bouquet is a premium option and I didn't even know it!

It's so odd to compare lists. Some of your 'not available' flowers were on my 'included list'...   We basically had included and premium/exotic (extra charge).  our list wasn't near as extensive as yours though.   Maybe it depends on the florists the resorts use?

edit: love the bouquet called 'citris'   Love the colors!  I had considered throwing in some of those 'green' things (LOL!!!) but then decided against it and stuck to my 3 main colors. Still love the idea though!

@@snswedding2016 Don't be sorry! I have no idea if this list is accurate. Whether it is or not, in the end, it'll be the resort/florist that sets the price.  :P

@@calgarybride2015 It is strange that the lists are so different. Like I said above, I don't know how accurate it is and in the end it doesn't really matter. The pricing I can get will be the deciding factor! At one point I was thinking of just bright, bold colors for my theme/bouquet, which I think is what you did. I still may go that way...

Received my first wedding-related online purchase today. YAY! Kimonos for me and my 2 BMs. Thanks @@eriddell for posting the La Vie en Rose sale. Great deal!

My FH has also ordered gifts for his GMs - he seemed inspired when I ordered the robes. I didn't see what he ordered, so hope it's not ridiculous  :P

I got those too!! lol  I got the blue for my girlfriend and I got the white one with peach. Not my colours and I haven't figured out yet if we'll get to wear them but I did get them for one heck of a great price!! Well worth it!!

We (or should I say HE) received some packages this week! He ordered flasks & bottle openers from the Chive. Not sure if you ladies are familiar with the Chive - it's a web site of some cult status and very popular among FH & his friends.

chive GM gifts

We also received custom golf balls for the golf outing he is planning. They say "Mexico 2016". He didn't want anything too specific to our wedding. He works in the golf industry so these were free. YAY!

custom golf balls

Question - Do we need to give a gift to our MC? We didn't think about that when we ordered the Chive items. We haven't asked yet, but hoping my BIL (sister's husband) will be up to the task.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
