Quick Update

We've decided that my parents will pay for the excursion so that should get booked this week. They said they don't need to be "advertised as hosting it" which will allow us to still say whatever we want in terms of a thank you to our guests.

Also very excited that a friend of ours has offered to play a musical instrument of our choice for when I walk down the aisle. Could be sax, flute, clarinet, not sure what else he plays. For the Canadian ladies on here, he is the saxophonist for the Colin James band which some of you might be familiar with. I had thought about asking him, but wasn't sure. But he volunteered on his own last night I'm very honored.

Invitations

I bought a Vistaprint Groupon that I thought was good through the end of August, but just realized it expires July 31, so now scrambling to finalize invitations. Oops! Originally I wanted something custom off Etsy with a "papel picado" theme, but then I realized that most people don't know what papel picado is and won't likely make the connection to the small amount I will have hanging at our reception. I think I will cancel the custom Etsy order - haven't paid for it or have them start any work on it yet. Plus it will save me $60 to go with a Vistaprint template.

Other issues:

  • My colors are not 100% nailed down. Going green/blue/teal-ish, but have not finalized it. I wouldn't worry about it too much since no one is really going to remember if my invitations match whatever colors are at the wedding, but I was also going to order matching placecards... Maybe I will wait to order the placecards in case we end up going a different direction with colors.
  • Not sure what to put as the RSVP date. Our wedding is April 7, 2016, and I believe numbers are due to the resort about a month in advance. Our early booking bonus deadline has passed, but the final travel deadline is early Dec (we're in Canada). I'm not mentioning the travel deadline on the invitation, as this info has already gone out by email and I don't think there are many more people who will book.
  • I wanted to get matching table numbers, but how do you do this? I only need one card that says "Table 1", not 10! Again, will probably wait to order this.

Debating between these two colors (same design):

oh tough choice! Love the colours!! I think I'm leaning towards the second option but i don't know I keep going back and forth when I look at them.

As for vistaprint…I'm afraid I'm no help. I haven't ordered from them yet but I'm sure the other brides will be able to help you out!

@vancouverpetunia both invites are beautiful but my vote (if you are unsure of your colour) is option two because it has less of the teal/green. I like the cohesive-everything-sort-of-match idea but you are 100% right - no one will notice. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I vote for # 2 as well, they look great!!

You are right no one will notice if your colors match your invite - especially if they are in the same color family!

My invites had a lighter pink ticket jacket because at the time I couldn't find fuchsia. No one noticed or cared really!

I also agree that you can't go wrong either way.  I do know that with Vistaprint you need to use the price of the groupon in one go or you forfeit the promotional value.  So I would keep that in mind depending how much your invites cost against your groupon!

With respect to your table numbers and vistaprint.  Unless you order something that is large and only comes in the quantity of 1 you will be stuck with extras :(    When I did my business card items I would generally do the special ones where I could order 50 but when I wanted to do a card using the front and back, I had to order 100. I had to throw the rest out because I had no use for them.   Sucks but I don't think you will find another way around it.

I like option number 2 as well. Its a little bit less in your face and its got a softer more tropical feel to it in my opinion. I'm a fan of white space on printed products though. I think that it will look great! Its funny that you say you dont care if the color matches. I was so picky about color for my invitations. But I think its probably because I knew what color I wanted and back then I was set on everything being the exact same shade of that color. Now in retrospect I wouldn't worry. Most people just throw the invitations out so knowing that I wouldn't have made mine quite so elaborate.

For printing just 1 card You could try somewhere local like Staples or a local print shop. They can generally do that for you. I used to work at a print shop and do their graphic design work. Shops like that usually have someone there to design and if you bring in a picture of what you are looking for they can usually make it for you.

I love option number two for the invites!!

I have been playing catch up with everyone's planning threads this week since I was so busy the last few weeks.

Your wedding dream/nightmare made me LOL. It's so funny the types of dreams we get from wedding planning. I agree with @TinkerSofi that once you get closer to the date they go away. I haven't had a nightmare in a while and I think it's because a lot of my anxiety for the wedding has subsided now that I am getting closer and most of my planning is done.

I had a dream that my dress wouldn't zip up, so my mom tried to give me this really unattractive blue scarf to wrap around my back so that I could cover up the fact that it wasn't fully zipped. Then I walked down the aisle and I was in a school gymnasium and no one was there.. not even my groom. I fell to the ground crying and my dad came to console me.. he was wearing a pair of splash pants and a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey. hahaha. I will never forget that dream.. such a nightmare. I'm not sure what's worse.. the fact that no one was at my wedding, or my dad's attire.

Also, I really love the GM's outfits!!

Thanks, ladies, for your opinions on the invitations. Seems like #2 is the winner.  :D

@calgarybride2015 I think I would only lose $2 on the Groupon, so not a big deal, but thanks for pointing it out. I wonder if I can apply it to shipping or taxes. Probably not. And I had only found a quantity of 100 for the biz cards I was going to use as placecards. I thought I might use the extras for something else, but I will see if I can adjust to 50 if and when I decide to order them, as that would be better.

@yycbride2016 Thanks for the tip on the local print shops. I actually have a couple of printers that I use regularly for work, so maybe they would help me out. Plus we have an in-house design team that I could probably persuade to design something in exchange for a bottle of wine :) I was also looking at the Avery products/templates. If I can get the background design, then I think I can adjust each item (for table number, name or whatever) and print them myself.

@perianjay These dreams are sooo funny! Not at the time, but certainly in retelling them.  :P

I'm like everyone else, I love invite #2. I like the balance of white and blue on that one. And if that's not your actual colour, I do agree that no one will notice. Your invitation looks beautiful and fitting given that it's a destination wedding and that's all that really counts.

The 50 card quantities are not the 'standard business cards' but more the personalized ones. Once you dig around you'll see what I mean. I just remember if you want the card double sided it has to be 100 or more.

Great idea on having printing done at staples and such!! I printed some things at home at higher quality cardstock.

Vistaprint doesn't allow it for shipping or taxes if I recall but totally could be wrong.
