Izzydeee's Wedding Stages Thread-Riu Montego Bay Jamaica 05.06.15

Recommended Posts

This whole adventure began on September 19th 2013; the day my Fiancé proposed!

He planned it as a big surprise, we went to Toronto for the weekend and stayed at the Old Mill Inn; which is beyond beautiful! post-282430-142656161129_thumb.jpg

The Proposal:

So it went a little something like this: Jordan pulled the car up to the front door and told me to stay with the car while he made sure our reservations were ready. -little did I know he had driven the whole way with my ring in his pocket and even walked past me to get to the front doors of the hotel, I didn't even notice a thing!- when he returned to the car he found us a parking space and we took our luggage inside. The women at the front counter seemed a little more cheery than normal when we checked in and informed us we would need to wait a few moments longer to be able to get situated in our room. Once we were told our room was ready we headed up! As soon as I walked into the room I dropped everything I was holding as I looked over onto the bed and saw my engagement ring surrounded by rose petals in the shape of a heart!! I didn't even give my FI the pleasure of getting his whole speech out before I was crying and reportedly saying yes! He put the ring on my finger and then we got ready for our weekend full of a UFC fight: John Jones vs. Alexander Gustafson, we saw joe rogan live for his comedy tour, we went to the Toronto zoo, and also went and saw the weeknd live in concert!! It was an incredible weekend we will never forget!post-282430-142656139427_thumb.jpgpost-282430-142656142125_thumb.jpgpost-282430-142656155923_thumb.jpg

Wedding planning:

We slowly but surely got to work on planning our wedding since we already knew we wanted it to be in Jamaica; we had been there twice before and loved it! We then set a wedding date of May 6th, 2015 will a departure date of May 2nd. We chose the Riu Montego Bay because my soon to be sister in law got married at the grand Bahia principe the year before and it was fantastic. We received a fantastic deal on our flight package for group rates and had enough people going that my FI and I are both going to our wedding for free!! That also includes the hotel ! I have a close family friend who is a photographer who is going to shoot our wedding the entire WEEK we are there, we had enough people book that her trip is also complimentary!!

So with that our wedding date and hotel were booked; then it came down to planning out the details!post-282430-142656169361_thumb.jpg

The Details:

While planning our wedding we were put into contact with Nekeisha White who is our WC. We decided to book the plaza gazebo because we read it is more private, and looked through photos and decided that was our location! It is breathtaking! We also booked to have a private dinner at the steakhouse with a private reception for dancing on the roof! Once we arrive we will decide on special decor and flowers . Our wedding color is an eggplant purple (take a look at my photo gallery ) We are hoping to get Kevan to DJ for us since we keep reading he is the best!post-282430-142656147188_thumb.jpg

My engagement ring was actually designed by my fiancé as well! He got to pick the centre diamond, the band and even the setting type! In my opinion he went above and beyond anything I would've asked for! For all I cared it coulda been a ring from a vending machine!

Going this weekend to pick out our wedding bands! post-282430-142659804311_thumb.jpg

Just some advice for any brides out there that are doing a destination wedding:

Throw a pre destination wedding party! It helps to throw a destination wedding themed party so you can have the bridal party and the groomsmen meet as well as most of the guests that are actually coming! I found this very helpful myself to see what kind of atmosphere my guests will have while we all party together

Just a useful and fun tip!

Wedding Dress:

I found my wedding dress at Wedding works in Ingersol Ontario Canada! It is a ivory mermaid gown with all gold embroidery .

As soon as I tried this dress on I knew it was the one. It's not like it screamed at me, "IM THE ONE!"; but it sure came close . I was able to buy it off the rack which gave me a weighted veil for free! I was an extremely happy girl to say the least !

I found my dress last March and have gone every couple of months just to try it on again and again LOL! I couldn't be happier with my find!!post-282430-142660061393_thumb.jpg

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
