Riviera Maya Beach Weddings

Recommended Posts

For anyone that has recently had a beach front wedding, did you have any issues with the seaweed that has been plaguing the riviera maya area this year? We're planning a beach front wedding, but may change the location if there's going to be a foot of seaweed on the beach?

I had a beach wedding but since it was the private beach there was large rock between the sand and the water. - ie wasn't the beach where you entered the ocean. Given that, it wasn't a concern for us. Our resort though did a good job of cleaning it away as it was never an issue when we were at the beach using the ocean. They left if on other areas though so I know this seaweed you speak of. I would assume all resorts would be good about cleaning it away.

I got married right on the beach in Akumal (90 minutes from Cancun). Fortunately, my wedding coordinator has a staff who actually cleaned the beach where the ceremony took place! Check and see if your resort/coordinator is willing to do something like that. If not, I wouldn't really worry -- your location is amazing regardless, seaweed won't ruin the beauty of it all :)

Hey starbx123,

we don't get the seaweed all the time in the Riviera Maya, but not to worry ,pretty much all location have their stuff to clean up the beach area daily, more so when there is a ceremony on the beach they would clean it up few times .

Yeah, the Barcelo does a good job of cleaning up the beach, and depending which beach you're getting married at it might not even be an issue (the far south beach location isn't where the water hits, so no seaweed!).  I wouldn't stress too much about it :)

It has been an unusualy heavy year for the sargasso seaweed but the resorts do a great job of cleaning up, especially before a wedding ceremony. The seasons are changing, we may see the seaweed disappear, fingers crossed! I would certainly ask your coordinator if they have a plan for cleanup before your ceremony. The great thing is that even with seaweed, the ocean is turquoise and the sand is white and you are in love!

All the best!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
