Centerpieces/ Decorations/ Flowers Help!

Recommended Posts

So I am getting married August 15 at now sapphire in riviera maya and I still have not picked my centerpieces/ flowers! Everything seems so expensive and I am very simple, but I still want it to look nice. I have an idea of what I want but I don't think I can travel with what I want. The resort wants to charge about 85 plus tax for a centerpiece. I've seen some people on this site post about using outside vendors but I know I'll have to pay an outside vendor fee (300) so I feel like it will add up quickly. I would be happy with any of the below centerpieces, which one would require minimal flowers, which I could get from resort, but the biggest problem is the glass vases. I feel like I can't just use one, so with 3 per table I would need about 21 with 7 tables. Definitely can't travel with those!! Has anyone experienced traveling with all that stuff or have any other suggestions? I really like just the candles but since reception is outside, I'm afraid they will blow out if not in glass. What do you think?? My favorite really is with the flowers in the water, I don't know what to do!post-279723-0-49988600-1426296365_thumb.jpgpost-279723-0-18079800-1426296392_thumb.jpgpost-279723-0-70372500-1426296416_thumb.jpg

Get the LED candles instead! That's what I'm using for my centrepieces. They have various sizes, votives, pillars etc. You can get them at the dollar store, Michaels, Paper Lantern Store…just depends on the amount you need - prices vary and I found it cheaper to order a larger batch online from the Paper Lantern Store.

You can travel with that! You are just going to have to dedicate another suitcaseto it and wrap carefully. To be it was worth the extra 40$ suitcase fee to save all that money

Really?? You think?? With that many?? Hmm something to consider

I'll consider that! I thought it might look tacky but I guess it really doesn't matter!

Is there a walmart or other similar store near your resort? Sometimes you can order things online and have delivery to store. Just an idea.

I'm not sure! I think it's really expensive to ship to Mexico!

Also, have you ordered yours? You got all different sizes? Do you have a picture?? So then your not using flowers at all for the centerpiece right? That would save a ton. I was thinking of using maybe the flowers from the bridesmaids bouquet of I was going to use the water with flowers . Idk

I have ordered mine. Let me see if I have a photo of them to upload. I was initially concerned about the look of them too. I'm wrapping them though with vellum with love quotes printed on them. Similar to this:

My theme for my reception is "Love Story". The candles will be wrapped with quotes, the tables numbers will be scrabble tiles and I've ordered flowers made out of old Jane Austen novels. I will also be reusing some of the small arrangements of fresh flowers from my ceremony and transferring them over to the reception. So I'm not really using flowers in the sense of large centrepieces, but there will be small floral hints within our table decor.

I know a lot of people travel with their glass vases for their centrepieces but like you I am trying to avoid bringing breakables.

You could definitely travel with those as long as you bring them on carry on suitcases and well wrapped. There's also a lady over there that rents out decor so she might have what you need and you don't need to pay the outside vendor fee because you meet up with her and then bring your decor in. Search Love & Lace Wedding Decor on facebook, she has pictures there so you might be able to find what you're looking for, or talk to her about whether she can get anything like that for you.

Just one suggestion, if your reception is outdoors, I would use LED candles so they don't keep blowing out with the wind :).

As for the flowers, the beauty is that water makes everything look better, so fake flowers will look great when under water and no one will know they're fake! :D

We've been talking to Katy at Love & Lace Decor in Playa. Look them up on Facebook and look at her albums to see items for rent.  You can pick up items from her off of the property and bring them in on your own.  Saves you from having to pack them or pay a vendor fee.

@@lornj29 I'm in the exact same boat as you right now, and my wedding is June 11 so don't feel bad. I know everyone says we CAN bring down the vases, but I'm really not sure I want to. Sounds like a major pain to me  We were just talking about it last night and may do flowers for half the tables and vases/candles for the other half. So that helps with floral costs but we don't have to bring as much down. (We'll have 8 tables.) But I was also thinking of just ONE vase/candle, plus a framed table number plus some starfish and shells on the table and a nice colorful menu card. For the one vase I was going to wrap it in a blue ribbon with a starfish on it. So maybe you could get away with one vase per table?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
