Questionable Reviews

Recommended Posts

Trying to word this in a way as to not insult the integrity of this forum (since I love love love everyone here and am so grateful for everything I have learnt and been able to accomplish with your help)

...BUT...

I've recently been reading a few negative reviews of various vendors (some of which I have already hired and paid), immediately followed by 5 star overly gracious reviews, written in poor English, by members who have no other posts/pictures/profile details. Is it just me, or does it seem that possibly the vendors themselves are creating accounts and posting fake reviews of themselves? I know this most likely happens on all forums and is probably impossible to 100% identify when this is happening. But I'm still so upset that I paid several thousands of dollars for one particular vendor who has been getting numerous negative reviews and only a couple questionable positive reviews. I'm hoping I'm wrong about this and I'm not wasting my $$ on an untrustworthy vendor who does not even deliver the quality work I was expecting =(

Any other thoughts on the matter?

Hey Laura

I'd have to agree with you. I do also struggle when I see these glowing reviews that come in from 1,2,3 people shortly after a negative review and the person only signed up to leave that review.

While I understand that some people are probably asked to leave a review - I know some new vendors that had old clients do this to help them - it does strike as odd when some just seem so obviously fake.

Suggestions? Advice? I don't have much to offer as like you said it probably is just the way of the world. I hope for your sake though and all others, that the vendors you choose are stand up people and the positive reviews you did read are legit. Everyone will always have good and bad because everyone has different taste and standards. Good luck girl.

The only thing I could suggest is that possibly Tammy makes it so that reviews can't be left until a certain amount of time (somewhat like people can't see attachments until they have 150 posts).  If they can't leave a review for 30, 60, or 90 days it may deter people from 1. only coming here to leave a review or 2. 'fake' accounts leaving reviews randomly.   If you have to remember to come back to do it, you may just completely forget about it all together because it isn't important to you.

I agree. One of my vendors has some reviews of people who haven't even worked with him yet, which I don't think is fair. Don't get me wrong, I trust his work 100% and I'm confident on my decision but I don't think these reviews are helping him. If anything, if I was looking for a vendor I'd be a little weary. I would love to see reviews from people after they had their wedding. They are a lot more useful.

I think it's a great idea to require people to have a minimum amount of posts. I don't know if this is possible, but it would also be nice to only allow people to write reviews on vendors after their wedding date.

I completely agree! If the reviews are fake, what good does it do anyone? None for sure. As a moderator, one of the things I pass on to new brides to be is to look at the resort and vendor reviews that are posted here. If I'm not giving someone realistic suggestions I definitely would like to know. I'm not entirely sure that there is much that can be done but I'll look into it.

@@nattiegams325 good to know. Thank you all for your replies. I'm both relieved and sad that I'm not the only one who has noticed this. I'm feeling very deceived and let down by one particular vendor right now. I agree that it would be helpful to require a minimum number of posts prior to writing a review, similar to how we need to reach a certain number to see attachments.

Hopefully I'm wrong and possibly Mexican brides are coming on this forum as a favor to their favorite vendors and writing true reviews, as was mentioned above.

@@LauraM there is much more out there other then this site. I don't find enough destination brides are using this site and we shouldn't reflect on just what is on here. I have a few vendors as well on here that have had some negative reviews but when I check the source and remember all my extensive research I did ahead of time I don't get too worried. We are getting married next month and I am certain I made the right decisions at the time and it will be a beautiful spectacular day and so yours will be too.

Not everything you read is true and there really isn't enough reviews on this site to be fair.

  • 2 months later...

I was just reading Travel Agent reviews on here and read about the LUXE! 70% was fake!!!!!!!! it was fake for sure! so obviously fake with no effort to even pretend that those are actual users! No active posts, and only that one 5 star review of the LUXE!  Now, even if they are good, i will not want to work with them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
