Acw271011 So This Is Not A Planning Thread.... But

Recommended Posts

I've sort of neglected a lot of stuff over the last month mostly due to the very long hours I've been working pretty much since the beginning of March. Things have at last settled down but it's weird - I think because I was running on adrenaline for so long now I'm exhausted! Comes with getting old too! lol I'm just not up to doing 60 hour weeks anymore.

We have pretty much all of our big things done so now I want to start on the little things. I'm going to get a few chair sashes and decor type things to take with us. Thankfully I only need a couple so we won't be taking large numbers of things. As it is I think we're going to be 6. That seems to be the final number. And after having dinner with our friends last weekend it looks like we're narrowed down to two resorts. Azul Fives is completely off the table now. We've all agreed - if you're going to spend that kind of money, we should be able to have king size beds! So it will either be Platinum Yucatan Princess or Valentin Imperial, and we're all leaning towards Valentin. It just depends now on which of the two comes up with the best price for our travel dates. Even our travel agent says its one of his favourite resorts in the RM. It's further from Playa than I want since all of our stuff is there, but we'll just do the travel back and forth.

The resort has been our biggest struggle. The second has been a dress. After having to change the one I wanted because hubby asked me to try and bring the cost down, I've bounced around with styles. It's hard when you get set on one dress to change it up for something else. So I'm asking for opinions again. I'm really working at narrowing down what I want and I've even decided now that I can go strapless and just purchase the shoulder piece to attach since I want my shoulders covered. I'm working with three and I would love if you ladies would let me know what you think.

This is the first and I really love it.

This is the second.

This is the last one but I'm really on the fence about this one.

I even found blue shoes that I really like. Has anyone ever dealt with Zappos? I looked at the ratings for these. I've never bought shoes online just because I have a hard time getting shoes to fit comfortably.

So our location is completely final with an arch, flowers are done, cake is done, minister is done, dinner location is done, photographer is done, video I think is done (just a short 30 min one). Am I missing something?

I love numbers one and two best. For my body shape I tend to gravitate to one but wish now I had tried more styles on. Can't go wrong with any though!! I'm curious though for the brides that wore styles two and three if dancing was easy?

I would use zappos because I know others who have. But it's not Canadian! I know you have the option. I think you'd be safe.

I think you've got the major items. Are you dancing and need music or a DJ? Transport to your ceremony? Those are the only things popping into my mind.

Well we're only going to be 6 like I said so I'm just not sure about dancing. I would love to! But can you do that with such a small group? I definitely want to have music going at the restaurant since our area is pretty much all for us and nobody else. I need to check with Joyce and find out what the restaurant policy is. Joyce has already said we're fine with taxis to and from. I wondered about hiring something, either a van or whatever but Joyce has said not to bother.

If we could get our resort finalized I'm still hoping I can get day passes for Styling Trio and the photographer and see if we can have them come to the resort instead of the running back and forth. Playa is 20 minutes from the resort we're all in favour of so it will mean 4 trips on the day of the ceremony - in for hair/makeup, back to resort, get ready then back to Playa again to Grand Coral then back to the resort at night after dinner. We also want to go clubbing after we're done at the restaurant.

@@acw271011 My fav dress is #1, followed by #2. #3 is a bit "fluffy" for my taste, but that's me. I have ordered from Zappos, but I had the shoes shipped to a friend in the US and they were shoes I already owned (different color), so I knew they would fit. That said, I had no problems with them. Sounds like you have it all under control  :D

@vancouverpetunia  Thanks! I have to admit #1 is my favourite. My wedding dress was so simple and suited the situation at the time. I'm trying to go super fab without going over the top and #1 does that. Plus, on the site it's only $800 US so even with the conversion it keeps me at budget and I can get the shoulder piece to add on.

My stepson is in the US so I have no problem with shipping there. We just pick stuff up when we go down to see the grandkids. I just have such a hard time with shoes that I'm worried it will be a waste of time and I'll just have to send them back. I absolutely LOVE these ones! I was leaning towards a royal blue but these are called sky blue I think and the colour just jumped out at me!

@vancouverpetunia  No that's ok. It's on our wedding anniversary which is October 20th. We fly October 18th, meet Joyce of Dream Weddings and do my hair trial on Monday the 19th and then have some fun finally for our anniversary on the 20th. First time!! lol We've never been able to do anything really special yet for our anniversary with two spent in the hospital and one in a new job so this one really needs to be special!!

I really like #1 and #2 but if I have to pick one i'd go for #1 :). I love the flowy look of it :)

I'm glad that you've narrowed it down to a couple of resorts. I find that no matter what resort we end up choosing something always has to give, either the location, or the venues, the prices, etc. There's no such thing as the 100% perfect resort :). I'm sure either choice would be a great one though.

I agree with you that if you can get the styling trio to come to your resort that would make it so much easier for you guys on the day of. At least for me, I know I'll be stressed out and anxious that day so adding more travel time would make me want to pull my hair out and I would end up not enjoying the moment. I guess that it is very different when you have a smaller ceremony, everything is a lot more laid back. I don't know how some people have 300 people weddings haha, I'd be so stressed!

@TinkerSofi  Yes - I'm happy we've finally got the resorts narrowed down now too. Just waiting on pricing and when the TA says to pull the trigger to book. I feel like I could name the resorts in my sleep!! I've looked over and over and you're so right - there isn't one that is 100%. But I wish both hubby and our friends had said a while back that they would prefer adults only! I could have eliminated a lot of aggravation!! I even tried with Doug over the weekend giving him two other suggestions. Just to test the waters. He stuck to his guns (thank God) and said no - either Platinum Yucatan Princess or Valentin Imperial. The reviews are good on both but Valentin (I think) has a bit of a better review of the beach. PYP has reviews saying the beach is rocky and you need water shoes to go in. Everyone is having a terrible time this year with seaweed but that's mother nature, not the resorts. It's all up and down the Yucatan and we heard Florida is having an issue with it too. That's not something anyone can control and if it's too gross, you just stay by the pool instead. I definitely have no issue with that. Put me on a lounger, under a palapa with a cocktail in my hand and I'm good to go!!

Yeah - dress #1 is really getting the draw I think. I love the way it flows too but it still has some sparkle that should come out in our pictures! I'm almost sure but there is one that I've been eyeing up since January that the store is saying they have (it's an online store) in inventory but she's having a hard time getting her hands on it. I'm very reluctant to make my decision until I see just this one dress and what they're going to charge for it. Just have to wait and see.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
