Neako's Planning Thread - Riviera Maya 2016

Recommended Posts

That definitely hasn't happened. I have gotten quotes/recommendations from three. Then specific resort group rates from two. I'm about to make my choice so that will be the end of the line. It just sucks because they are both nice. Can't use them both though.

Thanks lady, I was kinda doubting that I included so many songs. I'm glad even one person enjoyed listening!

Oh goodness I know :). I'm just not coming out right with what I was trying to say. Sorry if that was taken the wrong way!

Well.  I think we have our decision... Drumroll please!....June 10th 2016 Royalton Riviera Cancun.

congrats! This is where the fun begins! :D

PS: I totally went and creeped on the hotel on tripadvisor. It looks amazing. I need to stop looking at pictures of beaches, I just want to be there haha.

There's a rash of bad reviews that just popped up on Tripadvisor, but I'm not too worried. The resort just opened in December and they are understandably going to experience growing pains. Most were service/food related which I forsee being resolved by the time my wedding rolls around. Also the seaweed, which it seems to be a bad year for.

I'm probably going to retire this thread now that I picked a resort/date AND changed my user name.... And colours. :)

If it makes you feel better my resort was on the news! ha!  and it was still perfect (minus my dad's incident).  Everyone has such a different perspective and opinion on things, that it's possible those bad reviews were from people who wouldn't have been happy in Trump Tower.

Every single resort I researched had bad reviews from cranky people. Including the ones I've actually visited and loved. My mother and sister both mentioned the reviews while in my selection process. My TA said it's one of her favorite resorts though, and I'd rather take the experience of a well traveled person than a couple of bitter online reviewers.

The only thing I'm personally worried about is the location. Ten minutes from the airport is GREAT! But unfortunately that means it's not close to Cancun OR Playa del Carmen, so it's an expensive cab in either direction. But outside of excursions I only see there being maybe one day we would want to travel in to PDC, just to check it out.

The airport is in Cancun so wouldn't it be close if it's within 10 mins? I'd have to look at a map. It would be about 45 from playa del Carmen so I can see that, but a cab may not be that expensive or a tour.

I wouldn't worry about reviews, every new hotel has some and there's always the trolls going around hating on everything. They should just stay home because apparently no one does things like them. The reviews saying there were so many bugs always kill me :P

If it's 10 min from the airport the cab ride won't be too expensive. Also, if you and your guests want to go clubbing during the week, most hotels' entertainment team arrange a bus for everyone to go down to different clubs every day of the week. Then you just need a cab to come back :)

  • 1 month later...

So I've been hibernating a bit. I couldn't get my fiance to agree with anything, and honestly I think I was overwhelming both of us with the process.

Well, we're going to Grand Bahia Principe Tulum next month for a much needed vacation. We've agreed it's a good chance to see some resorts. I'm thinking we will visit the Royalton, and Grand Sirenis, as well as, obviously Grand Bahia. 2/3 are very close to each other, but the Royalron is far - but close to the airport.

And for fun here are some pictures of my favorite dress (so far).

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
