Veryvalero's Wedding Planning Thread - Grand Sunset Princess

Recommended Posts

@veryvalentne that venue is gorgeous! I love the papel picado, where did you get that from?

And 6 inch loss? Congrats to you! Such an inspiration to hear what dedication and determination can achieve! I'm certain that your dress fitting will go well

@@veryvalentine - I would also like to know where you are getting the papel picado.

We were at Grand Sunset Princess a few years ago. We didn't have access to the Chill Out Lounge, as we didn't upgrade, but it looked gorgeous from the beach. We did consider GSP and the Chill Out Lounge for our wedding location - great spot!

You've lost 6 inches since March?!? Like March 2015?!? Wow. That's awesome. I need to get my sh*t together... LOL

@ashhtayy  you are too funny!! You are so right.  I have said it, the FI has said and a few of our friends have said it too, that we are getting in married in paradise, we don't need to spend $$$ so much money on décor.

I'm trying to keep the decor to a minimum but some things I will be splurging on are:

Gold chargers at each table setting

Chiavari chairs for the ceremony and reception

post-277519-0-33022300-1430308666_thumb.jpg

Gold table runners

The glittler gold table numbers

post-277519-0-65783900-1430308723_thumb.jpg

Colourful maracas on the tables and pops of coral and cream from the flower centre pieces.

this is my idea of keeping it 'simple'  he he.

The papel picado strands I am renting from a previous bride from this forum.  Her company is called Love & Lace and is located in Playa Del Carmen.  Lots of ladies have done business with her with happy reviews.  She has a whole roster of items that she rents.  The papel picado is $12 a strand.  We are also renting the gold chargers from her for $2/each and the gold table runners.  So it removes the stress of having to buy these things or even travel with them.

Hey! In AB it's the same 90 days! I paid about $90 at the registry in Beddington but they are all different - I called a place down Centre Street and they quoted me $75 so I was a bit annoyed that Beddington was more. Our officiant actually mailed out the paperwork for us, so we didn't have to do that. We also didn't have to wait 10 weeks, right after Mexico (so maybe 2-3 weeks total) I went back to Beddington for our marriage certificate. It came in the mail the same week. That was around $45 I believe. I paid $100 for my officiant.

I didn't know you couldn't do the symbolic first, wow!! I wonder if it depends on province and country, because I know Marina got married after Mexico. Interesting. I am sure you could find that on the AB Works website if you planned to get married after.

Oh! that really does suck about your friend's aunt! funny now I am sure. That happened to our friend on here (MrsKtobe) She went for her legal ceremony just before they left for Mexico in November and the officiant never told her to get a marriage license so they couldn't be married. She had no idea to get one. I think in the end they ended up making the one in Mexico legal.

Marina is in the US so very probably the rules are different than here. But I didn't know about the "no symbolic first" rule either. We got legally married in Jamaica so it wasn't an issue for us.

I know :) that's why I said province or country. Although it still makes no sense to me as symbolics aren't legal. I actually know someone in AB who did the symbolic first. Maybe they just didn't tell them they had the Mexico one??? I may look up AB laws today for curiosity.

The clerk was very clear that in Ontario, if one were to have a symbolic ceremony with an exchange of vows before being legally married, it would be considered acting in  bad faith and therefore they would not issue the marriage license.

Now, they would have to know that you exchanged vows....  (read between the lines).  She was very clear to explain this to us because she said that many people that do destination weddings that run out of time think they can wait and do it after.

So we applied for our marriage license and they now know that we plan to do our symbolic wedding June 20th, if we book the officiant for a time after that and they know, they would not go ahead with it as it would be seen that we acted in 'bad faith'.

She was as clear as tulum beach water!   :D

Oh I believe you 100% I just find it odd that this isn't listed on any websites.

I went back and viewed AB's marriage site and now just viewed ON's and it mentions nothing.  Seems unfair for those doing their research online to only find out about this when they book which could be AFTER their symbolic abroad.  If it was a large NO NO you would think it would be mentioned somewhere?

Very true, I thought about that when we were at the Clerk's office.  I should just ask them.

I found the website very vague though and focused more on the requirements to obtain the license etc etc.

It's probably written in an act.  @@calgarybride2015   I'll find out!  ;)

@@veryvalentine  sometimes I think too much, my spouse says I ask to many questions.  hahah!  I just tell him I am a nurse and everyday I assess, plan, implement and evaluate :P and that he needs to get over it!

On a side note - a much more fun one - OMG you are under the 2 month mark! So exciting.  Your pictures above look fabulous and will go so well with your reception venue!

@calgarybride2015  I am!  It just kinda happened.  It's kind of incredible and scary!  I am excited for life after the wedding though.

Hahaha he may think you ask too many questions but I'm sure you cover all your bases and he is lucky to have you for that! :)

My FI says I ask too many questions and have too many feelings.  He usually has 'one feeling' at a time.  lol  He says he's going to have vows for me and separate vows for all my 'feelings'.  lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
