Tinkersofi's Planning Thread - Azul Fives August 13, 2015

You make a valid point that the dispute would be with the seller, ugh!!!  It's a tough spot because you should be reimbursed, but I see your point that it's totally not the seller's fault. And we all know CP won't be paying for it.   Keep us posted.

OMG LOVE your brochures, they are super cute and festive.  Seeing your spot for room numbers makes me wish I had went thru with it.  A fantastic idea, knowing what I know now :)

Your photo props are not only cute but a steal of a price! Good job.

Us brides are bargain hunters that is forsure.

Just at about a month now - wooohoo!! What day do you fly out again?

@@TinkerSofi I've been trying to keep up with everyone's posts but have been falling way behind so I apologize if this has been said but...

Canada Post will cut cheques for missing, re routed or late deliveries. When my FI was in Van and I was here in Toronto they screwed up every parcel I ever sent...and there were a lot. Whether it be a shaver he loved and forgot here, birthday presents, hand made photo albums...you name it. Everything always made it there...late...(even paying for express shipping). Every single time they reimbursed the full amount in the form of a cheque.

I wrIte all this realizing it's likely less the money more the I WANT MY STUFF but I wanted to chime in that I have confidence you will get your money for shipping...

AND to let you know my fingers are crossed all makes it to you ASAP so you can stop stressing.

that's great! I told them that the package was already late. He seemed to be in rush to get it delivered this weekend but since I called later yesterday his supervisor had left and so he said it wouldn't be delivered this weekend but next week for sure. In terms of the necklace, yeah, i'd rather get the necklace but if it'll come late anyways then at least getting the money back would be nice. We'll see what happens this week, otherwise I'll fight for my money back. I'm hoping with all my might that it gets delivered :)

In terms of the other stuff I feel like I have no power whatsoever because it's up to customs as to how long they want to hold something and Canada Post is not responsible for that, so it's just a waiting game. It might come in next year as far as we all know haha.

I've basically come to accept it. Now i'm on the lookout for new bridesmaid gifts. I've just been trying to stay away from the malls haha. This week we paid the wedding! Woo!! That felt pretty nice and one big thing to check off. Now we just have the photographer, but we can pay him when we get there, which is nice.

Photographer:

Talking about the photographer. Were you guys in contact with him/her before the wedding? I have, but I just don't know what to tell him haha. Are there specifics we should be talking about? I don't know, since I've never even had a photo shoot before :P

Juan really wants some photos at night, he saw some them on some site and he's been obsessing about them haha. We are lucky here because if there is one thing Octavio Montes excels at is night pictures. He always posts beautiful ones on his facebook page and I have to agree, they're stunning. We're thinking of leaving the party for a few minutes before the photog leaves and taking a couple of nighttime pictures. We're also thinking of hiring him for one more hour. It's not a big difference money wise and it would give us a little more breathing room to get all the events we want photographed.

@@TinkerSofi! Those props for the photo booth are adorable! They will look so good once everything is put together in the day and I'm positive your guests will love it! So much fun!

The brochures are so cute too! I love the little birdies! Such a great idea. If my guest list keeps growing I might do a brochure too! It's a good idea!

@@yycbride2016 I think the photo booth will be a hit! :), I'm so excited about it. My dad and I will be working on the logistics this week, with his camera and tripod. It shouldn't be too hard though. They won't look like professional photos but it will be a fun time and it will give me something good to include in people's thank you cards.

I bought the birdies clipart from etsy haha. I loved them because I wanted to go for more of a Mexican Fiesta feel for the OOT bags. I used them quite a bit to make different things.

@@TinkerSofi I don't think people will care if it's professional or not. It's more the idea of it and having fun taking the pictures I think. It's a great idea. Have fun figuring out the logistics this weekend. I'm sure your dad and you will take some fun pictures while trying it all out!

Maybe I could make some cute starfish characters (not like Patrick from spongebob haha) and put them on my hand outs if I make them! It's a good idea! Keeps things fun and light hearted!

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought with the brochures. It's for when people first arrive, ready to have a good time, so I wanted to keep them fun. Compared to the more romantic feel of the wedding :)

I emailed my photographer a few times before we left to see what her thoughts were on our timeline, how much time we should allot for x y and z, but otherwise no we didn't have a lot of contact.

That said, I was able to meet my photographer once I got to Mexico before the wedding.  Are you?

If not, you will probably need to firm up a schedule before hand then.  IE - what time to expect him on site and where? (groom getting ready shots in room 1525 at 130pm) or whatever, then plan your schedule all the way until he leaves.

Also make sure he knows what types of photos intrigue you and some must haves - like night photos as Juan would like.  I don't know if I would send him your 'must have' list but you can -- just also make sure you give it to your MC or someone who will be in charge to ensure all your group shots get done.

i would also firm up cost, when you should pay, when to expect your photos, and any extras he may want from you.

I am sure you can also send him some inspiration pictures as well.

Hope that helps some.

@@TinkerSofi The brochure looks fantastic and the props are so cute! Your guests will love them!

As for the communication with the photographer I didn't go over too many specifics of shots but I did send him my list  of groupings for family and friends. I listed every shot I could think of that was important to us to have (ie. bride, groom, parents, siblings or bride, groom, maid of honour, best man etc. etc.). I then listed it from most important to least important so that if we run short of time he knows which shots he should really try and get before time runs out. I'm also delegating someone to organize the group photos. I've done this for a lot of my friend's weddings, I would essentially do this when I worked in production so I became the "go-to" person for this job. I find that the reason wedding photos often run over is because even though you may be organized with a shot list, you end up spending so much time running around trying to find these people. So the person who is in charge of this will have the shot list get the people who need to be in the photo and then while they are taking their picture, they will get the next group ready on deck so on and so forth until you make it through your list. When I did this the last time for a friend's wedding, they finished early and had a ton of time to take their bride/groom photos and then ended up finishing 20 min before the reception was even supposed to begin….that's until we were taking the last photo of the rings and one of them slipped off my friend's finger went right through the crack of a deck….but that's a whole other story lol! Good news is that we retrieved it after fashioning some ribbon to a coat hanger!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
