Tinkersofi's Planning Thread - Azul Fives August 13, 2015

@@TinkerSofi You are so so close - just over a month to your big day!!!! So excited for you! I hope your items arrive in the mail soon!

As for the hair - I know for me, I have to have my hair up. I always think I'll like it down and half way through dancing I throw it up in a ponytail, not the look I want for my wedding. haha! I also over heat easily. That being said my best friend like you likes her hair down and envisioned it that way for her wedding. She had two weddings one here in Toronto and one for her family back home in Mexico. She had her hair up for the Toronto wedding and really didn't like the way it looked, even though everyone thought she looked amazing. She did it half up for her Mexico wedding (also in August - and nowhere near water so it was even hotter!) and she loved it and didn't find it too hot.

I think it's like your dress, go with what you love even if it might be a bit hotter. Like acw271011 said you could always put it in a different simple style to put it up during the dancing so you can party all night! :)

I was just thinking about you and I saw your wedding ticker!!  It's coming up so quickly.  I remember the 1month mark and it was just a blink of an eye and now I am post wedding !!

Enjoy this time and try to get all the annoying little things done and out of the way.  Sorry about the Canada Post issues, they definitely presented some issues with my wedding.

I was reading your #hashtag dilemma - you could always do something fun with Spanglish.  We had a mixed group and used #BesosInParadise2015  everyone loved it and we are the only ones who have it so it was nice.  The husband came up with that one, it was inspired by Bachelor in Paradise which I am a huge fan of.  haha

What about #AzulAmor

I thought about AzulAmor but Juan wasn't a big fan of it, so we scratched it out haha. I loved your hashtag and I used it as inspiration for some of mine, but in the end I couldn't come up with one that I really loved. That's ok though. We have a pretty small and close knit group so I'm sure the pictures will make their way back to us one way or another :)

I feel like 2 months was like yesterday, and now it's only a month pretty much. Time flies when you get closer to the wedding day. I'm also starting to lose weight for some reason, probably the stress :s. As long as the dress isn't too big I'm ok.

Last night Juan and I packed most of the wedding stuff. It turns out that we only need our family members to each bring a carry on filled with wedding stuff and about 3 OOT bags in each suitcase :). When spread out it doesn't seem like that much. The nice thing is that we probably won't have to pay for checking an extra suitcase. I don't mind the paying part so much, but I feel overwhelmed with being responsible for only one piece of luggage, plus a carry on and the dress, let alone if we had to carry a few suitcases each of us. I'd probably lose something haha.

Today I contacted our legal ceremony officiant to see if there was anything we need to discuss before the wedding day.

My necklace finally arrived to Calgary! Yay!! I'm guessing it will be delivered tomorrow. Still no word from the bridesmaid's gifts. At this point I'm starting to consider it a loss. If nothing comes in by thursday or friday I'll start seeing what I can do in order to get my money back. At the end of the day, I was more worried about my necklace because it's more important, but still.

@@snswedding2016 I think I'll follow Calgarybride's suggestion and try out how curls behave in the humidity and see whether I can even stand being with my hair down all night. Otherwise I'll do an updo for my trial and then go from there :). Another point towards the updo is our first dance. When my hair is lose it ends up whipping Juan in the face when we dance salsa and I don't want to have to worry about that. Ugh, I'm torn haha but i'm confident that I'll be able to figure it out once I'm there. I've pinned a few inspiration pictures for both types of hair do's just in case :)

Good news on the necklace! I'm sure you'll get money back on the bridesmaid gifts but it may not be before you leave. Hopefully it was insured as well, otherwise you may have a tough time with canada post. They're complete SOBs (sorry about the language) when it comes to claiming back, especially if there is no insurance. They'll find a way to say they aren't responsible, and heaven forbid they admit that mail was stolen or just didn't show up. Not to try to stress you out or anything, but I worked in the legal department for a number of years and I've seen the hoops they put up to make you jump through to make a claim.

Happy you're still working on the dance! That's good news!

good to know! I don't imagine that they will pay for anything easily but when it comes to fighting against the man I'm pretty relentless. I'll wait 3 years if I have to, but they messed things up and I'm not giving up until they pay. I'll check with the vendor to see if it had insurance, I know it was registered, but I don't know if that's the same thing.

The dance is coming along really well. After we agreed that if it didn't go well we'd switch it last minute I think Juan felt better about the whole thing and began to relax a little. We've been working really hard, practicing pretty much every day, which isn't easy considering we live in opposite ends of the city. We're not fighting anymore about it, which is nice and really helps too.

Did you happen to pay with your credit card or pay pal? I believe you can take recourse with them too. Good luck!

Glad your necklace came!!!

EDIT: When are you doing your legal? Who did you end up going with?

We ended up going with Tamara Jones and we're getting married July 7th, so pretty much in exactly one month! In hindsight we probably could have gone with someone a bit cheaper but my mom was like "this is the day that counts!" etc, so we basically got peer pressured haha and she was recommended by another bride on here. Maybe I think that way because at this point I'm just beyond the caring haha, whereas when I booked her I was all into the details :P. It's crazy how your perception changes as you get closer to the date haha.

I paid with paypal so maybe I could go that route :). thanks!

@@calgarybride2015 I checked paypal, it seems that they do offer that service but I have to find out whether if I open the dispute it would be with the seller. I don't want to get her in trouble because she sent it and it's not her fault. I need to do some more research.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
