@perianjay no matter which dress you wear, you'll be a beautiful bride on your wedding day. i have no doubt that you'll get toned and will fit your original dress but I agree that you don't need that added stress. Plus I think you've always wanted a tulle skirt for your wedding day so with your new dress, you'll get the tulle plus the illusion neckline you love and had with your old dress.

@Wafflesmom Aww thank you! You are so sweet. :) I'm feeling somewhat relieved now. I'm not going to lie, I was starting to crack under the pressure. Trying to fit my body into the dress was getting stressful and actually a lot more discouraging than I thought it would be. I actually thought buying a smaller dress would encourage me.

@perianjay, it's funny that sometimes that added stress to lose weight actually makes me gain weight! I think the stress just makes me eat more out of depression. If you don't sell the dress, why don't you keep it and sell it after your wedding? Then maybe you can save it as a maybe second dress when (not if) you lose the weight

@Wafflesmom Very true! I tend to be a stress eater..unfortunately. Good point. If I don't sell it right away it's fine.. I have time. I still haven't decided if i'm going to get a replacement for it or not. I still have to see the dress that I ordered in person. It's bittersweet though..I really do love the ivory mermaid look.

@perianjay, if you're still in love with your first dress, I say keep it as backup and have the dress you ordered as your main one. Then when you get closer to your wedding date, you can decide which one you like more. OR if you end up buying the BHLDN dress, then you can sell your mermaid dress

I'm afraid I've pretty much given up on the weight battle. I'm old. That's it plain and simple. I did so well last year, even though 14 lbs was from throwing up all the time after my surgery lol but I figured hey - I'm ahead of the game now. It was a total of 25 lbs, which on a shorty like me is  BIG DEAL!! Believe me when I say that!! lol But now... sigh I've gained 10 of it back. And as of yesterday we're dealing with another health issue so I'm just.... done. I'm not going to put this pressure on myself anymore. I so wanted to look good for October. But it is what it is.

I said "yes" again to the love of my life at Grand Coral Beach Club, Playa del Carmen, Mexico on our 4th anniversary - October 20, 2015

@acw271011 I honestly completely understand what it feels like when you feel like it's a never ending battle. Once my metabolism slowed down it seemed like it was impossible to keep my thin figure. I've felt so insecure about it and I think about it a lot! I thought that buying a dress too small would force me to get smaller, but then I realized it had the opposite effect and that it was discouraging me more because even when i'd lose an inch.. it wouldn't make a difference when I tried to put the dress on.

I'm sorry to hear about the weight gain and health issues :( I know how discouraging it can be. I hope things get better and i'm sending positive vibes! I agree though, it's best not to put the added pressure on yourself especially with the stress of a wedding. We're all beautiful regardless of the extra pounds and I need to tell myself that more often.

@perianjay

Coming from the girl who had to have her dress taken out, it's a stressful situation to be in.

My story is a little different - the stock dress fit, the new, unworn one one didn't ;/

I figured I would lose 5-10lbs no problem. Ya was harder than that - you don't just lose weight where you wedding dress is snug LOL!!! It was really stressful and I came home from my first alterations appt. crying.  She said I could have a couple more weeks to see what damage I could do, and you know what? I just had the thing taken out.     It didn't harm my dress or it's shape whatsoever, she was a fantastic seamstress. I only needed the back panel out about 1 inch. She did tell me though that it couldn't be made into a corset back as there wasn't enough material, which would have just solved the problem.

While I don't doubt in my mind you would kick your body's ass and fit into that dress, you also have to account for some swelling in the tropical heat!  Even with mine taken out, on the wedding day we had some fun getting it done up.

I don't blame you for being cautious, the dress is everything!    Good luck!

It's a gorgeous gown and I am sure you won't have any issues selling it.

@calgarybride2015 Aww! That story is really relatable for me in ways. I'm so sorry to hear about that, but so happy it worked out for you in the end. You have a remarkable weight loss story and that's so amazing. You looked stunning on your day :)

I had tried on my dress one too many times and felt defeated/not good enough etc. It was starting to really tear apart my image of myself..all because I bought it a few sizes too small. I stopped trying it on a few weeks ago and when I talked to my mom this past weekend she convinced me to sell it and wear something I feel comfortable in and something that I can fit into and if need be, alter the dress to fit me and any weight loss that I have. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders with not having that pressure anymore.

This forum has been really amazing and I love the support that you girls give. :)

I feel you 150%, the moment I told her to take it out and then I went in and the dress did up, I felt so much relief. I remember sitting at home for days saying 'but what if the 1 inch isn't enough and the dress is useless?'  I was getting married in under 2 months so then I started to panic and was on every website looking for a new dress.  It's not worth the stress.  You did the right thing!     You weren't wrong in buying the smaller size either, just know that.  Just sometimes things don't go the way we planned / we don't sense the stress it will place on us until we do it and we learn a life lesson. Your wedding dress isn't a pair of jeans!!! it's sooo much more.

Honestly the whole dress part of the wedding plays games with our mind and our confidence.  First off, who really buys the wedding dress in their street size? next to no one.  I wear a 6/8 and my dress was around a 13. So right there I feel gross with myself that I have had to go up all those sizes.   Then we feel so much pressure to be gorgeous on our wedding day, and while we are gorgeous beforehand, we just have this added sense of pressure that just screws with our emotions, self esteem, the whole nine yards.    ....... I was having a hard time getting that out LOL so I hope you followed me :)
