I decided to start a planning thread to share my ideas with others as well as keep myself organized over the next ten months. I am one of these 'plan very far in advance' types. I like no surprises or unexpected occurrences - I like certainty.
I've been on this site for a few months now and I can definitely say that it has already helped me a ton in my planning stage.
When I booked Beach Palace resort, I had already known for a while that it would be between BP or Hard Rock Riviera Maya, but my FI and I had been to Beach Palace and we knew we loved the resort, so that settled our decision.
Now with some research and the help of some brides/bride-to-be's on this website, I will plan all of the fun details of the wedding.. I say fun loosely.
How it started..
I met my FI, Chester, through a work friend just over three years ago and I had an instant connection with him, so I knew this was different. We had been talking a lot and getting to know each other and we decided to go on our first date. It was then that we had both decided that we wanted this to be our last first date, ever. I can admit, that sounds a bit crazy, but it was perfect.
I can whole heartedly say that he is my perfect match. Chester is everything that i'm not and it makes our relationship that much better - we balance each other. I can't imagine my life without him in it and that's how I knew he was the one i'd grow old with.
Every year Chester and I go away in October, it has just been a tradition ever since we started dating. This past October we decided to goto Cancun, Mexico. The trip was perfect from the minute we arrived and I just had a great feeling about it since the first day. It was around the second day that I noticed Chester acting a bit funny.. constantly leaving to "get a coffee" etc. I did find it a bit odd the one time he forgot to actually get a coffee, but it still didn't blow his cover. On the third day into our trip Chester asked me to go for a walk on the beach before dinner. This wasn't unusual to me because we are beach bums, we love to go down to the beach any chance we can. As we started walking down the beach Chester asked me "What's that?" .. I don't have the best vision so I had no idea what he was trying to point out to me. As we got closer.. I noticed photographs placed in the sand in a line. They were photos of us..our life.
I immediately got teary eyed and it was at that moment when I knew what was coming and it felt so right. In the sand was our photographs beside "Perian, I love you. Will you marry me?" and there he was, down on his knee waiting (with the most perfect sunset behind him). It was beautiful and it was everything i've ever dreamt of. I still get emotional thinking about it.
And the beautiful ring...

Chester and I always knew that when we get married, we don't want a conventional wedding here in Canada. We want to go away with the ones that we love most and celebrate our marriage.. and not just for one night - a week! We have gone to Mexico a few times together. The first time we stayed at Moon Palace and we weren't crazy about the size of the resort, but we did LOVE the Palace way. It was a very memorable vacation and the staff there were amazing, the food was great and overall we loved the quality of Palace Resorts. When we were there, we were able to resort hop to other Palace resorts for free. So we spent two days at Beach Palace and we really loved the resort. We kept saying how we would want to come back to Mexico again and stay at there.
I guess in the end, this is how we made our decision and ruled out the rest. We were familiar with the property already so there would be no surprises.

This was something I really didn't spend much time looking for, and it is because one of my friends is using her for her DW booking and swears by her. I trusted her and my TA hasn't let me down once, in fact, she has been nothing but AMAZING and extremely helpful. If any Toronto brides are looking for a great TA, let me know and I will gladly pass her information on to you.
Palace Wedding Coordinators
I won't drop names of any kind, but this has been a bit of a disappointment in my planning stages so far. It took me almost three weeks to put the deposit down on my date and it should've taken a day or two. I sent all of my information off to my coordinator and didn't get a response in almost three weeks.. finally I followed up with him again asking him about it, noticed the charge on my credit card, but still no formal email from him saying that he booked my date. This was fairly disappointing, but it's fine. After he was finished coordinating my deposit/date, he then passed me off to a wedding planner.. and at this point I am receiving the exact same quality of service. I have asked multiple questions that haven't been answered and are currently hindering my planning process. She had also scheduled a formal call with me and when she called me she asked me if I have any questions. I asked her a few questions I could think of and then that was it. She didn't really ask me my vision.. or seem to put much effort into the call. Again, very disappointing service.
So far i've received a few quotes for different decor that I have been considering, nothing decided as of yet.
I love LatinAsia's decor, but I find their lighting options for the reception to be not as great as Zuniga and also very overpriced. I was quoted $1000.00 for three strings of lanterns and the installation of the poles to hold them.
When I reached out to Zuniga, they quoted me $670 for 6 bamboo lantern structures WITH installation.
I won't be cheaping out by any means, but I got a bad taste in my mouth when LatinAsia quoted me $500 for poles.
I will be looking into the difference between the two .. LatinAsia seems to be less expensive for tiffany chairs and charger plates, however if i'm going to have to pay two set-up fees, I may as well just keep it all with Zuniga since I will for sure be doing my lighting through them. I'm going to talk to Zuniga and see if they can match the pricing for chairs and charger plates since LatinAsia is a bit cheaper.
For photography i've chosen Lancelotti Photography. All in all the quality of work is good and the price is great so it was a no brainer for the FI and I. Although i've seen a lot of great photographers, they are quite high in price and not really in our budget since we are paying for the wedding ourselves.
Our colours for the wedding are Coral, Gold and Mint and we are trying to bring as much with us as possible, but within reason and size/weight. Right now I currently have Gold Votives from Michaels (purchased with 40% off coupons), LED tealights from Costco (purchased a few months ago), P & C Marquee letters (Purchased from Michaels last week - they were 50% off!!), All of my table linens! (Which I found on here from a local bride who used them at her BP wedding!), and I've purchased some things for the OOT bags as well.
