Hey ladies, Just curious what you roughly spent on photography. I have fallen in love with the idea of a video of our wedding and photos but the photographer I really want is $5700! Seems a little steep to me although he does do fabulous work

It's pretty pricey - I was quoted between 1500-6000 by different photographers.  I went with Samuel Luna, who does great work, for photography but am using the resort videographer for the ceremony video (I couldn't justify an additional 1500+ for the video alone!).

Look at your budget and look at photographer costs.  Ask for quotes, if they have specials, if they'll work with you on price.  There are lots of great photographers, and there are lots of reasonably priced ones too.  Look around, especially on this board, and look at portfolios/examples.  Find a style that you like, and research research research!  Ask for recommendations!

The range of prices that photographers charge runs the whole gamut of pricing. Do a comparison. Take the pricing of the photographers that you've contacted and see what they charge for what you're getting. Then go back and take a look at their work. It should say something to you when you look at their style.

I was set on one photographer for our renewal in October and decided on someone else just because the style clicked with me. I love his work and I'm really happy we've decided to go with him.

I did contact one photographer that when I got the pricing it was $5,000. That's definitely not in my budget. So absolutely double check everything before you make a final decision, especially if it involves that kind of money!

When I did my research I found costs anywhere from around $700 - $5000.     All of those prices ranged in time, the $700 may have only been for 3 hours, but then some that were $3000 were only for 5 hours, etc. Some included 2 photographers, some not, some had more pics than others.  Had to pick thru a lot of info.

I agree with the other ladies, take a look around and then seek out quotes from the ones that catch your eye. After that narrow it down by the ones that fit into your budget -- once you have that set, go back and look at all of their work again and see which photographer is more your style.

I'd suggest knowing prices first, because it may be a large disappointment to pick one and then not be able to afford them!!!  and during this process you will find out which ones are quick to reply, helpful, and the like!

In the end I had 8 hours of coverage for $1700 ($2100 Canadian), which included 285 pictures and a 90 picture photobook!!

Our resort’s photographer wanted almost $3000 for 6hrs and 24 un-edited photos .   We needed full day coverage from 8am-11pm so we decided to bring our own photographer. We got our full day ( 11hrs ) photography with all our photos edited for almost half the price in Canadian dollars. Shop around and don’t be afraid to ask for discounts :).  Lv Emma.

I'm getting married in Jamaica and we're paying $2,400 for 8 hours on the wedding day plus a second 2 hour shoot, all digital photos, slideshow, etc. She also covers the vendor fee with the resort so I don't have to worry about that. Yay! Considering my fiancé wanted to spend $0 it sounds like a lot, but I was comfortable with under $3,000, but preferably under $2,500! I contacted every photographer I heard of and kept a spreadsheet of costs and what you get for it.

Now, if you add videography I think it goes way up from there. We decided not to do professional video.

Keep looking there are MANY!!

My top runners, outside the one I used, were Bohemia Photography and Samuel Luna.

I had a few others but they were just too far outside my price range.

    • Hi All, I have just gotten in touch with a TA and we are in the process of getting quotes for our wedding in either DR or Mexico. Now she said something that I wasn't  aware of and I wonder how others handled this as I just can't believe that we are the only one in this situation. We feel we are asking our guests already a for a lot to come a long way to our wedding (our guests come from Canada and Germany) and there are a few that wouldn't want to miss it (like my partner's brother) but they just don't have a lot of money. Our budget doesn't allow us to chip in for flights and accommodation so we are basically asking everyone to save up money for our big event. Now we are planning the wedding at a resort that I know some of our guests can't (or don't want to) pay for. We were hoping to find a place where guests have the option to book themselves a cheaper hotel or an AirBnB nearby and only come to our wedding. Our TA told us that the resort might not allow that or only for a limited percentage of our guests. That is terrible news for us! I think that a good 50% of our guests will also stay at the resort for one, two or even three weeks but how can we 'force' other people to stay at the hotel of OUR choice?  I get that the resort would charge a fee for day guests and obviously we expect to pay for food and drinks but I didn't know that we would have to agree to a certain percentage of the guests staying at the resort. I don't feel we have control over that. How do others handle that?
