Newbie Here! Average Mexico Wedding Costs?

@@nattiegams325 such a good response.

You can totally spend as little or as much as you want so it is hard to say what an average cost is. From what other brides have said it I think a realistic budget could be  $15000-17000 with about 35-40 guests. This won't get you many luxuries but it will be a nice wedding :), depending on the resort you choose. Of course it can go much higher than that depending on what details you want to add and whether you have more guests.

I agree that you need to make a list of "must haves" and then search for hotels that have the most items from that list. For example, we knew we needed a family resort, it needed to be relatively close to nightlife and it needed to have venues off the beach for about 50 people. Most importantly, we wanted to pay around $1500-$1600 for trips. After taking that into account there weren't a lot of resorts left that met all these requirements. A travel agent will be the most help, otherwise trying to go through forums alone can be super overwhelming. A travel agent can give you 2 or 3 resorts to look into based on your preferences and then you can try and do research based on that.

I also agree that you can consider receptions outside of the resort. I really wish we had considered this a bit more before booking.

My wedding costs, not including travel expenses bc that is not wedding exclusively, not including rings or dress, is running me 8k and that's including private club, officiant, open bar,2 course plated filet mignon or salmon, lots of canapés, dj for ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, LED dance floor to make the large space seem much cozier and inviting place to dance, wedding cake from an amazing bakery, chocolate fountain with treats, florist, photographer for day of AND TTD session, makeup artist, daughter and son's outfits, and decor.

How I cut costs-

Chose a venue that had NO rental fees, used on site WC. Created my menu and priced it out, carefully chose bar package, sought out all vendors worked on prices, bought all my decor from various stores at home and am carefully bubble wrapping and bringing, am hiring a florist for tall centerpieces and bouquet bc mine is very specific with anemones and ranunculus and DIY the other small arrangements, not having an alter but marrying inside circle of flowers placed in sand, and the venue has all tables, chairs linens, glassware, we are bringing overlays and chargers, lots of candles.

I'm very detailed and have high expectations and I literally created it all for 8k.

My vendors are

Officiant - Petra Rattue personable, woman who I feel like I know already

Venue - Kool Beach

Baker - Carla Molina of Pasteleria la Migaja who is excellent!

Photographer - Gonzalo Nunez so kind and quick to reply, worked with me on my schedule and had no prerequisites how the time had to be split or started.

DJ - Audio Cancun (amazing so professional excellent ears for matching music based on preferences)

Florist - Floreria Iris, quick to reply quoted me honestly lots of experience, there are a few good ones but I chose them.

MUA- the oh so fashion forward makeup artist Zoe Elizabeth. So dynamic and creative portfolio, awesome chick.

We will be buying extra flowers for ceremony and extra petals and small arrangements at Walmart, DAC, and maybe Iris.

Daughters flower girl dress -etsy

Sons tux - Calvin Klein on amazon.

Both outfits totaled less than $180.

If you negotiate, look for honest vendors, and do your research you can have a wedding for as much or as little as you want and it WILL be beautiful. If I had a little more jingle in my el pocketo I would sit back and let everyone do more things for me which would be fabulous, but even with a tight budget and having to wait almost 2 years to save, I never thought I would have to sacrifice things, meant a little more elbow grease on my end.

I don't like to mention costs or private stuff but people need to know it can be done for far less than 10k.

Bam! Lol

Ohh ok yeah. If we're talking about just the wedding , without counting trips, ring, dress, grooms suit, gifts, etc a wedding in Mexico can be well under 10k. Agreed. It's those little details that really bring the costs up, but it always depends on you and how you allocate costs.

I think you can make any budget work, you might have to give up some things, invite less people, etc. but in the end you can make it work . Whatever your budget is, make sure you leave room for unexpected costs, they always seem to come up and it's better to be prepared

Agreed. And I didn't include travel or lodging bc that's not actually the "wedding". Also the ring and dress can be included I guess but I think those are personal expenses that I didn't include in my budget although my dress was only $500. I was only referring to the event, but gosh I guess you could have an 8k wedding and blow another 7k on dresses and jewelry if that's your thing! :)

I know I'll be saving a little room in my budget for some yummy tropical drinks! This cold weather stinks!

Ya too bad my family can't afford an all inclusive resort.

We'd be having all the unlimited events on the side of the street in the middle of town, maybe on a small patch of grass if we all has to stay at hotel. Haha!

Love them though!

I was trying to rent a big 10 bedroom house and prepare meals ourselves each day, but no one could get deposit together.

I'm sure you guys will have a great time and make amazing memories regardless :). My whole life we've gone in groups to coastal cities (not at all inclusives) and we'd just meet up at the beach every day and then plan outings for those that wanted to come. It's a lot of fun too! and because none of you are really "attached" to a resort, then it gives everyone more freedom to go and see different places.

And just traveling with friends and family rocks. People can't stop talking about it on FB. People made new friends for life. It's almost like a once in a lifetime to be able to do that - wedding is the excuse - and I am sooooooo glad we did it!!!! Tearing up lol

I know! I don't mean to get off topic but I am sure  Calgarybride 2015 you are tearing up, what a once in a lifetime memory.

My 71 year old dad who hasn't left the USA since he arrived at Ellis Island on a ship from Greece is coming! Didn't think he could, but he is!  I can not wait to be witness to him throwing a pole in the water and fishing and relaxing with us on a vacation together with us. Its going to be a great time and I know it will enjoy just as I am sure all of you will.

Congrats everyone..

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
