How Do You Travel With All This Stuff?!

Hi!! IM GETTING MARRIED!! LOL

Is it weird that i might just be obsessed with this whole wedding stuff... i literally dream about it, spend all day researching stuff and now I have found this new amazing forum!!

I will be getting married at the Now Jade Riviera Cancun in Mexico. I have read that a lot of brides take a tone of decorations down with them... Where do you put it all?! Im expecting a very large group (approx 96 ppl) and theres no way i can fit 96 chair ties in my suitcase, let alone all the favors etc... does anyone have any ideas?

Also I was wanting to get maracas for the favors with our wedding info painted on them. Does anyone have any ideas where i would find those?

Thanks!!! :)

Welcome @@breezie! Oh you're definitely going to burn many hours on this site...but I consider it an investment in my wedding! Haha.

I think we're going to be around 80 people and I'm limiting myself to ONE medium sized extra suitcase for any decor/guest items - and chair ties will take up a big portion of it! I love some of the ideas for guests like insulated mugs or tumblers, but that is just not feasible with needing 80. If it doesn't fit, I'm not bringing it!

Hi @@breezie , I'm getting married at the Now Jade too!  I definitely had that exact same thought--it seems like everyone is bringing down a TON of stuff! Some brides pay to have extra suitcases, some have spread out their supplies amongst friends and family...for me, I'm just renting more stuff from the resort than most people (including chair ties).  For me, it's worth paying extra to not have to deal with buying it, packing it, lugging it back, and reselling it.  I'm definitely in the minority on this site for wanting to do that, and it might not be the most economical option, but it's just what works for me.

Happy planning! :)

@@rachelia160 you will have to fill me in on all your little details!! LOL Im finding it really hard to make decisions based on just the few pictures they show! Would you mind sharing some pictures with me when you get back?? Also one thing i noticed with Now Jade is they don't really offer extras to make it extra special..maybe cause its not a dedicated wedding resort... i don't know... they don't really have a lot of extras ya know. at least they don't specify anyways.

Between buying all the stuff to make decorations, and buying the table cloths and chair covers and ties and paying for the extra luggage on the airplane, maybe it would be less money and way less hassle... i think i may actually consider this!! Now i just have to figure out favours... i know that you can have things shipped to the resort but then what if they lose it? Ahh so many questions! haha.

I'd be happy to share pictures! In fact, I've been there twice, so I'm linking you to my Facebook album of all the pictures I took last time while I was wedding scoping.  Let me know if you can see it. (You'll also notice that me and my mom completely stalked every wedding that we saw going on while we were there!)

If you have any questions about the resort you can let me know and I can try to answer them, I'm not an expert or anything but I might know a few things that aren't listed on the site.

What kind of special extras were you looking for?

I totally agree about the decorations.  I'm bringing some things with me, but table linens and chair covers and such especially just seem to me like a total pain to figure out how many you need, what sizes, packing them, reselling them...it just sounds like too much work.  I'm trying to think off the top of my head of the different stuff I'm bringing down...my own center piecies (everything is expensive but their centerpieces seemed ESPECIALLY pricey, so I'm bringing mine even though I wish I could get them from the resort), Chinese lanterns in my colors, a cake topper, a seashell banner from Etsy, a card box and guest book....that's all the decor I can think of that I have right now, I'll probably end up with some more odds and ends along the way.  I have seashell placecard holders that double as a favor since they can hold a picture.  I'm also doing a little display with sunglasses at the ceremony with a "Don't be blinded by our love" sign, which is sort of another favor. I'm also doing OOT bags with quite a few things which I know will take up quite a bit of space, as well as my bridesmaid's special bags.

See, even I feel like I have a ton of stuff, even though I seem to have a lot less than most brides!  I guess I'd rather let the resort handle the stuff that they offer, and only bring the stuff I need.

Awesome!! Those pictures are great!!! I have no regrets picking this resort!!! Thanks for sharing :)

As for extras, i was thinking fireworks LOL but they don't do those due to safety reasons. I also like the idea of those lantern things that people release into the air, again safety issues and im sure environmental issues etc. They did offer me cold fireworks which i think are just let off from the ground and only go up 10 feet or so, not really sure. But I don't know what else im looking for. Maybe im just a brat haha. I noticed they dont really do anything for decor. Paper lanterns like you said you were using. I want to buy some in my colour as well. I just dont know where to get them LOL. I see so many little things people use for wedding decorations and gifts and dont know where to look for the same things....

@@breezie Fireworks would be so cool! And lanterns would be really pretty too but that just seems like an accident waiting to happen.  I go back and forth about stressing out about the decor a LOT because I'm afraid I won't have enough cutsey stuff to bring with me, but all the brides on here remind me that you're in a tropical location having a blast (and drinking..) so no one notices that stuff anyway!

Where are you having your ceremony/cocktail hour/reception?

@breezie - We will be using Maracas Mexico for custom maracas, paper fans and papel picado. They are located in Mexico and ship directly to the wedding coordinator at your resort. They have great reviews and have been quick to respond to me.

Also, everything I have read has said DO NOT ship anything to your resort from out of the country. There is no guarantee it will make it there in time. Items often get held up in customs. I, personally, would never chance it.

We plan on packing everything into suitcases. The heavier items will go into carry-on suitcases since those don't get weighed. If need be, we'll buy an extra (super inexpensive) suitcase or two and toss it in the garbage afterwards so we don't have to pay for it to come home.

@@rachelia160 you are totally right! I have read that not a lot of decoration is needed because of how beautiful the location is!

We are doing the ceremony on the beach (which of if have over 80ppl- which im hoping not) then i may have to change it...

the cocktail hour is at the orange lounge, which i have heard mixed reviews about this....not too sure if its nice or not. Seems to be... and our reception is in the Bamboo Room- again based on amount of guests. My FI and I both have HUGE families and we cut out list down to 143ppl thinking that a lot wouldnt come. But man were we wrong everyone seems to want to come!

What about you?

@@JenniferH114 thank you so much!! I didn't even think about the carry on!!! So I can bring a carry on as well as my wedding dress and same for my man he can bring a carry on as well?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
