How Much Are Your Alterations Costing You?

Recommended Posts

My wedding dress cost $500 bucks. If I have to spend another $500 to get the ass taken in, I will get myself a pair of those shorts with a sewn in booty. And I won't feel so bad when I trash it 2 days later!

I was shocked on alterations. My dress was cheap and it was like almost 3/4 the cost of the dress. I didn't realize I wouldhave to hem it bc the rest fit perfectly... Bc of beading it was $$. I hope to loose 10 lbs before leaving, hope it doesn't need more alterations since it is a bit snug now

My dress was almost $700 and my alterations are $285, which includes hemming, bringing the shoulders in a bit (since it's not strapless), and a full bustle. I was expecting it to be around $300 going in. My mom worked in bridal for a long time, so she had forewarned me that alterations are pricey.

I just went in today to the store I got mine to look for bridesmaid dresses and I got a rough quote. It will be $300-350 for replacing the zipper closing for a corset, the hem, taking it out at the hips and the bustle. I thought it would be more for all that. It feels like I have to remake the dress when I list all the things that need to be done! Haha

That actually sounds like a fantastic price when compared to mine :)  Wonder if it plays into it how long things actually take - ie, maybe a corset back isn't much longer time wise than taking a dress out, etc.    awesome!

I was reading about it the other day. Apparently it's not so hard (for a seamstress of course hhah) but the hard part is matching the fabric to the dress. I truly love the zipper closing on mine with all the tiny buttons and I would keep it if I can but replicating all the beading on the bodice after taking it out would probably be super expensive. I'll still get a quote when I finally bring my dress to the store

Totally! you could always ask and see what they say.   I also love the tiny beads over the zipper look too!  For me, corset would have been the safest bet haha!   Thankfully we got it done up, but we tore the top eye/hook closure trying to do so....the seamstress had put 3 on to be safe (top, middle, bottom) hahahahaha!!!! she wasn't a dummy!

That sounds like a great price. I hope mine comes in close to that since I also want to do everything you are doing. I love my dress but I'm worried about bloating in Mexico so I think a tie up may be the best choice.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
