Kcole123 Planning Thread - April 17, 2015 - Melia Caribe Tropical

So there was a little mix up in our bookings we found out today but it's all taken care of now. When we originally requested our rooms we wanted the Adults Only section of the resort. Found today that the resort had changed and what we originally requested wasn't what we were given. We said we wanted the Master Suite as well but this is room category is only in the family section. So a little confusion but all is well now. The resort has been renovated and my travel was not aware of the change of the resort. When she was there a couple of years ago all was completely different. So the free wedding came only if you booked the Master Suite at the Level and because we changed and downgraded I didn't think we would get the free. But the travel agent ended up getting the free even though we are now downgraded and are booked at the Level Adults Only. But I am much happier now we are booked where we wanted to be in the beginning. And that was the last room left in the Level Adults Only. Rest is sold out. We are lucky in that sense.

The resort sent me our itinerary today and break down. It actually makes me feel a little less anxious now knowing that they seem to be pretty organized and on the ball with stuff. Out of all those emails I sent, they actually understood everything I was asking.

Anyway, to make matters really sad is that Nathan thinks he has the shingles. He had it once before and he thinks it's the same as what he had before. He went to the doctor today and she said it's either bacterial infection or shingles. So she gave him the meds to treat bacterial infection. He has an appointment on Monday to see how it's going. He is saying tonight thought it's starting to hurt. So yeah I am hoping this is not what he has. It makes me sad that he may be sick while he is in Dominican for a week and I really don't want him to be miserable and not enjoy his time and his wedding. This makes me sad but I am hoping for a better outcome and hoping that it's not the shingles. Fingers crossed.

Oh no :( that's terrible. How long do shingles last normally? I don't have much experience with them. Could it be cleared up by then if he cuts out everything and just rests? Can he stop work now? :( feeling horrible for him (and you) please keep us posted

He said last time he had it for a month. He is off work now but he said he has to go back next week for three days and then that's it. But if it is the shingles, then he is best just staying home and not bothering with work.

I feel so sad for him. I want him to be able to enjoy this and not be in pain or feel miserable.

I will certainly keep you all posted when he goes back to the doctor on Monday.

@@kcole123 oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that Nathan may have shingles. My FI had that last year when he got really stressed out since I was sick with pneumonia for over a month. He was in awful pain and he had a ring of red bumps across his stomach. It lasted about two weeks with the first week being the worst of the two. Hopefully if it is shingles, it will heal quickly or the pain at least subsides by the time your wedding comes.

So, just real quick before I head to work work.... did the dr start him on an antiviral, such as valaciclovir? - it helps slow the virus and is a 7 day course (caution - . as long as there aren't any contraindications, he should take an OTC med (ie tylenol or ibuprofen) to help with inflammatory pain. did the dr give him any topical creams for the blisters to prevent infection? hopefully it isn't bad enough that he needs steroids  :(

because he is younger and this is potentially his second attack, he should consider talking to his dr about the shingles vaccine... shingles can cause permanent nerve damage... which can lead to more problems later.

also, @@kcole123 have you had the chickenpox???

I have never had the chicken pox. I read this last night. Eeeeeeek

The dictator have him some pills and cream.

The cream is called (well written on the tube anyway) Taro-Mupirocin and is medication is Novo-Lexin or Cephalexin not really sure. Just going by what's on the bottle and both are there.

My grandma just got diagnosed with shingles not fun! (They had also thought she had a blood clot before that so had been giving her rat poison to thin her blood!! We are glad it's not that and only a cyst, because she wouldn't have been able to fly to Jamaica for our wedding!)

Sending my support your way

The med is an antibiotic not an antiviral. Is she just hoping the med works or did she do any testing (swab or bloodwork etc) to diagnosis what it is quicker? If she thinks it's bacterial it can be tested. Viral can't.

Did you get a chickenpox vaccine at any time? Worth getting if you haven't had the pox or the vaccine.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
