Kcole123 Planning Thread - April 17, 2015 - Melia Caribe Tropical

@@kcole123,

@marriage license - I guess I need to look more into it, but I thought we could just go down to the courthouse with paperwork (no appointment) and that would be that.

@BeautyRegimen - I made an appt for my hair and make-up for the wedding day. I am skipping the tanning bed (maybe a spray tan a week before?). For nails, I plan on going to a salon as I walk-in and getting gel polish a couple days before we leave. Waxing - I'm too much of a wimp. Eyelashes - I've read that they can really damage your natural lashes, so I am just getting temps for the day of the wedding.

@parents' gifts - I have seen it both ways (4 separate gifts or 1 gift per couple) and I think it depends on preference and situation. Both of our parents are recently divorced and neither of us have much of a relationship with our fathers, so just our mothers will be attending. For my mother I am getting her an embroidered hankie with a quote from "I'll love you forever" because she always read that book to me. As for Jake's mother, well, she isn't American and her culture isn't as touchy feely, so I am struggling bit with what to get her.

@photobook - I have had a lot of friends do the photobook for their parents and they used Shutterfly. Their books turned out beautifully.

I am anxiously awaiting my dress fittings and for things to come in the mail.

Do you know if those stickers that you ordered for your cups peel of rather easily?

I agree re: Shutterfly. I used them for my thank you cards.  Since we are in Canada the exchange is pricing and shipping took over 3 weeks!

I used those labels for my cups too and trust me, they don't peel -- they are going NOWHERE!  I used my cup over and over in Mexico and you can't even tell it's been used.   Actually I also recommend being careful when you originally place them on the cups as you can't remove them easily to re-place.

Kristy and I live in Canada so the marriage thing works a bit different :)

@@calgarybride2015 - I knew that you guys lived in Canada! I guess it just slipped my mind!

Random thought, wouldn't it be cool if we could all attend each other's weddings? I mean, seriously! Quite a few times the women on this site have been a bigger part of my wedding planning than anyone else that I know personally.  Love this site and the bride to be's/newlyweds!

@@pddcmc hahaha I have thought about that before. Or we all meet up (just the brides for a girls trip) maybe to an all inclusive. That would be so cool.

Yeah I live in a small town here in Alberta and they only have one justice of the peace here. So I contacted her in the last couple weeks and she only does certain times and certain days and she is going on holiday soon. So lucky I called when I did. Those tumblers will be the death of me yet.

As for the stickers, I have no idea I just put them on and haven't looked at them since. (Maybe cause my fiancé would once again bring up the fact that it's a hassle having to lug and pay for those to bring to punta Cana with us. So I avoid bringing anything up when it comes to bringing things with us. I will just do the packing myself too so I won't have to listen to it hahaha.

@@kcole123 - Ugh. Yes, the tumblers. I love them, but am hating the idea of lugging them to Mexico! However, I'm sure we (as in you and your guests, and me and my guests) will absolutely love having them.

Oh goodness, yes! That is a brilliant idea! How cool would it be to meet up at an all-inclusive?!

This is another bizarre thought, but it seems that more often than not, I have met more Canadians in Mexico than Americans on both of my trips! I don't know, maybe it's coincidence, maybe it's the season, I don't know. So maybe I'll see you guys some time lol

I bought those fans online I think the website was Koyal Wholsale. I don't think they were my cheapest purchase and could have def. got them cheaper somewhere else I am sure.

I ordered them and used my moms address to ship them to because she is bringing them down for me. Haha and she is picking up the ribbon and putting them on the handles for me just for a bit of color. Got to put other people to work too and it also saves me in bringing them down. Gotta share the love.

We are getting so close girl. We have little over a month to go. I can't believe it. I am like a ball of nerves lately. Is that normal? I cry now every time I see a wedding video. Urgh I hate my emotional wreck side.

Anyway I have lots of trips to Edmonton planned for this month (it's like a two hour drive away). Four trips out there this month to be exact. Two dress fittings and eye lash extension appointment and something that doesnt' have anything wedding related (my 1 year laser eye surgery check up). So much to do still

Anyway my fiancé told me "no more wedding stuff." "You can't be buying anymore wedding stuff." "we are only going to have to bring it down there anyway." I told him I had just the kids things to get at the dollar store, like coloring books and crayons, beach ball or something, cups, and a little bag each. Only three kids going all under five. Anyway he said "nope they don't need it, it's a waste of money to get them something they aren't going to use."

Anyway this is the advice from my newly wed friend "get someone else to get it for you and bring it down and you just pay them back." SO what did I do get on the phone with my mom hahaha she said "sure I will do that no problem."

So Nathan isn't even going to notice the kids down there with the beach balls and coloring book and crayons anyway...lol

It just had to be done girls cause he just doesn't understand anything about weddings what so ever.

I told him if it was up to him and if he did all the planning and I just sat back he would have us getting married in our mobile home in Wainwright with me wearing a paper bag and him wearing super man underwear. No guests or no rings just an exchange of fruit loops.

@@kcole123, I think that is completely normal! I am starting to get crazy butterflies every time I think about our upcoming wedding. I am terrified that during the ceremony I am going to be a bawling baby or starting laughing and won't be able to stop (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dV2BfjkP6fU). The latter really may happen to me...

I think the stuff for the kids is a great idea and should help keep their attention. I remember parents doing that at church for kids, and guess what? You would never know a single kid was at mass!

RIGHT! Well, get this, I told Jake how much the resort was charging for just reception music $626.40 (speakers, microphone, CD player, connection to hook-up an iPod and a technician to play the songs). He about lost it when I said that didn't even include a DJ (1 hour is $382.80). So, if you do the math, 3 hours music set-up and 3 hours of DJ = $1774.90. I did a little price checking with my girlfriends here and how much they paid... they are robbing us!

So, what was Jake's response? "We don't need music."

Me: "Uhhhh, WHAT???!?"

Luckily, 1. we don't love DJs so that wasn't a big deal, and 2. a goalie on Jake's soccer team had an idea. He brings a mini amplifier to the games, and it is crazy loud..and comes with a microphone (more perks and details about the amp on my planning journal - I'm just that lazy)...best $150 we've spent.

Here are a few of my wedding stresses

1. I want to be COMPLETELY done with anything wedding related by the end of March. So, here are the things that need to get done:

2. Jake insisted that we could find what he liked and wanted to wear to the wedding at a department store like Macy's (I knew he was wrong, but we went yesterday just to look). NOPE, we didn't find a thing. He said, "I guess we need to find something offline."

----YEAH, I know! That's what I have been trying to *sweetly* tell him. Now, we have a month to find his clothes and HOPE that they arrive in time and fit correctly. Oh, and did I mention he has several business trips this month and will be all over the country? Awesome.

3. Make the decision of what we are doing for favors and OOT bags and get things ordered. (So far, we've been lucky with shipping, but I don't want that unnecessary stress).

4. Alterations - We've started, but I just feel overwhelmed that my dress is still being worked on.

5. Shoes - for both of us. It's more of a matter of just going and picking some out, but we still need to find time to do this.

6. Go to the courthouse and get legally married before we leave for our wedding in Mexico.

7. Mail my ring to our Jeweler to get it cleaned (we moved so I don't have the luxury of just dropping it off and picking it up when they are done.)

8. Purchase gifts for moms. Yep, still working on that...

9. Pick out music for ceremony, cocktail, reception.

10. Design place cards.

11. Purchase alternative guestbook.

12. Find a dog sitter.

13. Write ceremony. Make that, revise ceremony if needed.

14. Finalize details with WC.

...And now I am going to post this on journal as a checklist haha

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
