Newly Engaged Canadian Planning Destination Wedding!

Hi,

My name is Natalia, I am a 25 year old from Edmonton, AB looking to plan a destination wedding!

I met with a travel agent a few days ago and am feeling overwhelmed with all the options and prices!

She suggested Grand Bahia Principe Coba in Riviera Maya for Dec 2015 for best pricing and value for the location and packages.

I found tons of info on it here already and looking forward to spending time here and absorbing all the info! Will definitely be looking at other places as well from here. Any suggestions would definitely be appreciated!

Thank you,

Natalia

Welcome! The only thing I would caution for December- is on whether your guests will be able to afford to join you with its proximity to the holidays... If that's not a concern... Then great! Does your TA specialize in working with brides in DW? Make sure they do... Does she get special perks with GBP? Often TAs will get you little extras.

Read that board and get a feel from brides if they were happy with the process and their weddings and then have fun planning!!!

Congrats!

Hi @@natalia555, congratulations on your engagement! Meeting with a travel agent is a great first step but I do agree with @@kmk2016 that an agent who specializes in destination weddings is a great asset to have. Make a list of what is important to you (e.g. Price, adults only, beach, etc) and this could help you limit your choices. There are so many wonderful resorts so I know it can get overwhelming! All the brides (and some grooms) on here are really helpful so don't be afraid to ask questions

Congrats and welcome! You've already had the best possible advice and that's to get a great DW travel agent. They will become your best buddy as you go through your planning adventure! There are a number of resorts here so it wouldn't be right to recommend one just because it might not fit with what you want, and what you want for your wedding as well as for your guests. That's where the travel agent comes in.

There is an agent that several ladies here have been working with that is based out west and they seem to really like her. Her name is Laurielee Rosser and here is her contact info:

Good luck and happy planning!

Welcome and congrats from another Canadian bride!

I agree that starting with a good travel agent will be so valuable.    The one I used was phenomenal, if you have any troubles finding one and want her info just let me know.

I totally recommend you do a lot of your own research to ensure her suggestion for you is what you want.  My travel agent recommended quite a few throughout Mexico for us and we did end up with one of hers, but we also priced a lot of our own.   You also want to look into their wedding packages, etc. to ensure they are a fit for your wedding as well - it's double sided now, not only do you need a good resort but also a good wedding department & packages.

Good luck!

I leave in 2 sleeps for my wedding - heheh I love saying that now.

Welcome Natalia and Congrats on your recent engagement and upcoming dw!!! as you see, there's lots of excellent support, suggestions and info in these boards that will be helpful with your planning decisions, so well done on a great start already :)

One suggestion to consider when choosing your resort  - is whether the resort you choose allows outside vendors. If photography is important to you, we highly recommend you have a professional capture your Big Day b/c they will create a magical photo record of your Wedding Day Love Story that you'll cherish for a lifetime!

Here's a comparison of a resort photographer's picture and what a professional captures - for a dramatic demonstration of what a difference it makes.....with more at this link: Professional Photographers vs Resort Photographer

After all the energy you spend carefully planning and preparing your celebration in intricate detail, once the party is over, the dancing is done and your guests have gone home, what's left are your memories and the photos of those once-in-a-lifetme "moments that matter"!

Wishing you happy research, and all the best with your plans - cheers! team MTM :)

Hi Natalia!

I am from Toronto, got engaged in August and still havent booked anything yet. My fiance and I spent a month down in Mexico in November searching for the perfect venue. We have narrowed ours down to the Dreams Tulum and the Azul Sensatori. We are planning a January 2016 wedding, so not far off from yours! Good luck!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
