When Is The Best Time To Purchase Airfare?

Recommended Posts

I have been monitoring Kayak like a hawk and watching the price of airfare go down. When is the best time to purchase the plane tickets to Mexico? We have to buy a total of 10 airplane tickets (which includes FI, our daughter and myself) for the rest of our families. I know price will vary because not everyone is staying the same amount of time like we are.

Our wedding is in April and I'm afraid if I wait too long, the prices will skyrocket because it's around that spring break time. What did you past/current brides do?

@@hellosassypants I travel often, back and forth, the most secure lowest fare is 8 months before, but! depends on season as well, for example in Mexico, in Cancun April is very busy season, so It may never get lower and actually may get more expensive from one day to another, If I were you I would buy it ASAP!

Cheers!

Ivan

I am getting married in Cancun in June. I have been watching prices since June of last year. We are flying out if Palm Springs, CA. When I started watching the prices were around $750. They dropped to $520 around Christmas. They are now back up to $720 and guess who didn't by their tickets for a family of 5.... I could cry. I am hoping they will go down again. With that being said, I would say buy now if they are a great price for you

Oh my goodness - don't you have a travel agent helping you out? Get in touch with Wright Travel from this site. I'm sure they'll be able to help you out with information.

We are working with a travel agent right now but this is what she suggested was doing the Kayak alert. I contacted United Airlines about doing a group rate but they said we could lose the group discount rate because not everyone is flying back at the same time.

In the fall, prices (round trip) was about $800+ and now it has dropped down to $434 per person. I just want to drop it a little more. LOL. They actually have this deal with Viva AeroBus where flights is $168 per person but they only fly out on certain days.

Purchasing well in advance is a good idea to find the best prices. Based on our guests purchases, purchasing tickets closer to the date will be more expensive. We purchased our tickets 9 months ago in May for $400 from Phoenix to Cancun. Some of our guests that are also flying from Phoenix purchased theirs between $450-$550 during the summer. In comparison, a cousin who confirmed going in December bought hers around $700.

Bummer. We started planning our DW in September so we weren't able to purchase tickets then. I think we are going to purchase the tickets next week and hopefully it will go down just a little bit. We have a CC that will let us redeem our rewards for airfare miles.

My sister got married in Mexico in July. Tickets were cheapest about 4 months out and, of course, I dragged my feet waiting for a sale and prices only went up instead of down! I bit the bullet about 2 months out and paid about $125 more!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
