Small Wedding Of 10-12 People..any Ideas For Reception?

Hi! I'm loving this website and am getting excited to start planning! I have contacted Illeana to meet with her this February to help pick out sites for our wedding in 2016. My fiance and I are not only paying for the whole wedding, but we are also paying for 4 of my family members to attend so, we are trying to save money as much as we can. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what to do with 10-12 people for a reception?? It's a small group so a DJ and dance floor is not ideal because only like half of the group would even consider dancing! Hah..my fiance recommended going somewhere public so there's other people around and it won't be awkward with just 12 people alone. Any ideas on what to do or where to go?? We're open to anything! Thank you in advance!!

Congrats and welcome to BDW! You don't mention where you're from (US or Canada?) and you didn't mention which country you're considering for your wedding? Receptions for small groups are definitely a different animal than the ladies that are working with groups of 30 or more. I'm working with a similar situation with even less than that and it's proving to be a challenge.

You will need to decide what's important to you as most resorts will only offer a maximum of 3 hours for a reception, and if you're a very small group, there are quite a few that will restrict you to only an hour and a half. As well, once you get into packages that are for "up to" 10 guest, or even 20 then you'll notice that what they include is quite a bit less than packages for larger groups. It can make things difficult to decide.

If you have a meeting scheduled with someone for next month, then that's a great start, particularly if it's a travel agent? Hopefully it's someone with knowledge that will help you with the decisions. Your price point will also be a deciding factor in terms of where you end up having your wedding, and from there whatever your reception options are.

This site has a ton of information once you where you're going. There are a huge number of forums for the various resorts, vendor and resort reviews and ladies that love to share what they know. it will be a great help on your planning adventure.

Good luck and happy planning!

Whoops, sorry! I thought this thread was for Cabo San Lucas. I'm from Ohio in the U.S. and am planning a vacation in Cabo, Mexico for next winter. I'm meeting with a wedding planner when we go there next month to pick a location and what not. I'm just trying to get some ideas of my own so we can plan most of the wedding when we are in Cabo next month. It seems to be tricky planning a small wedding because we are limited on what we can do but I'm hoping to get some great ideas! Thank you!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
