2016 Brides! Let's Wait In Here!

Recommended Posts

Why hello ladies!!! So happy I found this site. I'm just at the beginning stages of starting to plan so the info provided here by other brides is freakin awesome!! We haven't set our date yet....we will sit down this weekend to confirm a date that falls somewhere in April 2016-June 2016. I figured next step will be to contact a travel agent. I think we'll go with Wright. After that Save the Dates... then who the hell knows! Ha! So much to do. I haven't even tried on any dresses yet.....

Hey Y'all!!

I'm sooooo happy I found you! TheBHolders thanks so much for creating this post!! I can't wait to get started on this crazy rollercoaster ride with you!  I feel like I'm now part of a cool sisterhood

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Christie77, our date has not been finalized yet.  I struggle between April& August 2016.  The main issues are budget and temperature!   I can't have it too hot cause if the sun looks at me I melt on cue! The expression Sweating Buckets is a HUGE understatement! And we need enough time to save save save!  What I have in my mind and what our budget is demanding are two hugely different points of view lol!  I'm working hard on not fretting too much though.  So beyond those two points, our main focus is to locate a great Destination TA.  Anyone in the Toronto area who can suggest one?

We've decided on the Beach Palace in Cancun Mexico due to all the positive reviews, but mainly because of their Sky Bar & Terrace!  Not only do you get a view of the beautiful turquoise colored sea but it's private!!  No fears of me spotting, at the corner of my eye, that random Speedo wearing sunbather strolling through the ceremony!!   I swear, the mere thought causes me to wake up in a cold sweat! lol

In terms of planning, that's pretty much it for us (really me cause my FI has no concept how much work this is going to be and out of the two of us, I'm the planner!)  I've got a Pinterest Board chock full with ideas and inspirations, but I can't proceed until I find the TA that'll give me a concrete idea of how to proceed.  So ladies, if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears!

Thanks in advance and Happy Planning! :D

Hi @@ChocolateBride! Congrats on your engagement and welcome to the destination bride sisterhood Wedding planning has been fun so far but I say that with still a year ahead of me. April may be better temperature-wise if you're worried about heat wouldn't it?

As a fellow Canadian bride, I love my destination wedding planner. The travel agent I use is from BC but I know she's travelled to Toronto recently for a bridal show. If you're interested, please let me know. She's really great at replying right away and has tons of contacts. She travels every month to Mexico and Dominican Republic to meet and greet with a lot of resorts and their wedding department. I was impressed that my resort wedding coordinator knew her by name, and assured me I was in good hands! So far all of my guests and I have been very impressed with her services. Since you're considering Beach Palace, the company has great contacts with Palace Resorts so this could be helpful to you.

And as a fellow Palace bride, I can help you with that too. There's a great forum on Facebook for Palace brides that you may want to join. With this forum and that one, you'll be in great hands!

Hi Ladies!!

Just an update... We chose April 1, 2016 as the date. I know April fools day but what the hell....sounds like the best date ever to me. We decided on Occidental Grand Xcaret as we fell in love with it in November on vacation (also where we got engaged).

Babs at Wright Travel is my agent, and she's awesome! Supper responsive, and really friendly. I guess next up is Save the Dates. I really like the passport style so I need to do a little research on those.

How's everyone else progressing?

Hello and Congrats! I'm in the process of doing a contract for April 2016 at Beach Palace. I was originally set on having our wedding in Jamaica, but I couldn't find a resort that had everything I wanted (non-beach venue) AND was kid-friendly. I love the rooftop venues at Beach Palace and the lovely beach. It has EXCELLENT reviews, is affordable, and I love that it's safe enough for you to leave the resort and walk around/ ride the bus (unlike Jamaica). Once we have a date locked in and rooms blocked, I'll start working on our website and STD's. I'm thinking about using paperless post.com for that and sending them out in April (a year's notice). I think we will send the invitations in the fall. Family and friends seem to be very excited about our destination wedding so we're expecting a good turn out, but you never know. We will have at least 30 people for sure.

I see that some of you ladies are very on top of things. My mindset is "but I have so much time to do that"! I'm sure the time will past fast though. Y'all will be my motivation to plan things early.

Happy Planning!

Hi @@MissAmber26! Congrats on your engagement

Have you looked at the re Moon Palace in Jamaica? I've seen pics of it and it looks really nice but not sure if it meets your criteria.

Beach Palace is gorgeous, the rooftop ceremonies look so beautiful. A bride just posted her review and pics from her December 2014 wedding which you might find useful. Just search beach palace planning thread, her username is tygrrlily.

I used paperless post too and it was so handy. Plus, you can track who received the invitation and guests can RSVP right away without costing you or them extra.

Good luck in your planning and I hope you have fun doing it. Feel free to ask questions or vent if needed lol

@@Wafflesmom Thanks and congrats to you as well. I did look at the Moon Palace in Jamaica but it's not open yet and I really didn't want to risk going to a newbie hotel. Plus, I didn't want the long drive from the airport in Montego Bay to Ocho Rios. On the shared shuttles, it takes 2-2.5 hours. And like I mentioned, Cancun is a lot safer and you get more for your money. In Ocho Rios the locals really harass you about buying things. And I really really really love the rooftop terrace at BP  :D Well we both  do.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
