How Much To Tip The Wedding Planner And Others?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My fiancée and I are going to be getting married in Punta Cana (Riu Palace Bavaro) this coming January and the question has come up as to how much to tip the resort’s wedding planner. Does anyone have any insight to offer into this matter and or any other gotchas/faux pas that with a little knowledge could be avoided?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Good question! I'm not sure either. My plate per guest is like 60 USD + 20% gratuity and my drink package per person is the same. As you can see that's about 25 bucks per head for gratuity. Who the gratuity goes to - I'm not sure. Would be nice to know the way to handle this.

We were at our hotel for 7 nights and had an event scheduled almost every day. We gave our wedding planner $400, $200 when we first met her and the rest at checkout. I think it made a huge difference in our service and how well our events went! It was well worth finding the money to do this... she was so appreciative and went above and beyond her duties for us the entire week.

I don' think there is a right or wrong way to tip - I too searched the threads to look for guidance.. there is one that someone posted (i'll try to find it and post it) that was a pretty good guideline.

That's very smart, I hadn't thought of giving her half when we arrived. I'll have to add that to my plans :)

I was considering this but I have also tipped a server in Cuba when he brought our first drink and we never saw him again :/ so that plan failed, so I have been hesitant to do it in Mexico for our WC.

EDIT: but I personally feel if your bill has a gratuity on it (as a poster mentioned a few posts above) that should cover all your servers and bartenders and I wouldn't tip them again.

Good idea about tipping upfront. I have had an overall good experience tipping upfront in Mexico from the times I have been.

I bet the upfront tip would be an extra incentive!

I don't think I will give the waiters and bartender extra tips I looked over our food and bev spreadsheet and for 30 guests it is about 750 USD added on.

Plus I'll have to tip other vendors.

But i did want to show gratitude for my on site wedding coordinator at beach club.

She rocks!

Thanks for the ideas!

And I'm not even the OP!

I can't find the thread that suggests tipping guidelines but I remember it said it was dependent or not if she owned her own business or not. Tipping is a very personal choice - I don't think there is a right or wrong way, as long as you doing are so. We ended up giving our wedding coordinator 150.00, however she did own her own business. I would of loved to give her more but with paying for the wedding ourselves and other tips, we were spread thin.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
