Tequila Shot Instead Of Sand Ceremony?

Recommended Posts

Hi Gals!

We are only 95 days from our wedding! I feel like this year is flying by...getting so excited!!

Anyways, fiancé and I are trying to figure out an alternative to the traditional unity candle or sand ceremony. We are considering writing letters to each other and placing them into a tequila bottle to be opened on our 5th anniversary (similar to the wine box ceremony but with a Mexico twist). We would then do a shot at the end to celebrate.

Thoughts? Lame or cute? Would love to hear what other DW brides think! :)

I couldn't help but laugh as I pictured my mother's face. I think it's cool and very different. If that's what you want to do, I think you should. Perfect way to start the party for a fun couple. I love the message in a bottle as well. I want to do something similar by having my guests write us well wishes at the reception for us to read on our 1 year anniversary.

I think that is a great idea!!

Since my bachelorette party I am 100% off shots, but if I wasn't that is totally something I would do!

I think all the guests should do one too - or atleast the bridal party!

My fiance's mom mentioned working on a time capsule for people to add too that we can't open for 5 years but unsure where that is at.

I'm with @@TheBHolders, except I think it would be my dad who would want to kill me (my mom would probably take a shot too!)   Since you're even suggesting it, it sounds like your family/guests are way more fun than mine are, so in that case I think it's an adorable idea--really different and memorable!  All your guests will go around for months telling everyone they know "I was at a wedding where the couple did shots at the 'altar'!"

This is a cute Idea travelgal78,

Actually one of my past bride what they did at the ceremony instead of a sand cereomy was a margarita on the rocks.  we prepared everything that needed to go in the margarita and just before preparing it the both mothers handed them the tray to them just before the cereomony. it was so cute and different!!

@@dreamweddings I love the margarita idea!! Maybe I will look into that.

I definitely want to get awesome shot glasses or margarita glasses for it!  B)

And yes, all of my guests are a party bunch. In fact, the tequila shot was my mother's idea     We may make it "cream tequila" so it doesn't have as big of a burn afterwards.

Thanks guys for the input!

I think the best part is that it was your mothers idea. Love it :)

I think it is a GREAT idea! My sister got married in Mexico and as the bridal party walked from the hotel room to the wedding location we stopped at the pool bar and all did a shot. Totally spontaneous so the photographer wasn't even there. Fortunately another guest took our picture, tracked my sister down for her email address, and sent it to her. It is one of the BEST pictures from the wedding.

Long story short, it'll be something different and memorable and it'll up the fun factor! I may steal the idea (but with rum instead, since we'll be in Jamaica)!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
