Fi and I met with a travel agent tonight to get started on plans for our Cancun DW!  We are planning on late July.  Once we finalize the plans, dates, and everything with the TA, what is the next step?  I am planning on doing a website but I’m not sure do I send out STD’s right away? And have that direct people to the website where they can see pricing, etc?  Since it is only 7 months out I want to make sure I let people know ASAP and I’m just not sure what the best way to do it is! feeling overwhelmed already smiley-embarassed.gif Would be interested to see others timeline and how you informed your guests of details, prices, etc.

Welcome and congrats!

We booked our resort early May for our wedding in January! (We leave in 39 days yay!)

What we did was send out invites mid May that were boarding passes. It had information directing our guests to our website that had all pricing, TA info, etc.

They also could RSVP on the website and nothing was done by mail.

We did a free website on mywedding.com

Our deposit deadline was mid July so we decided to do our RSVP date the same.

As the deadline approached we sent out reminder emails/texts/calls to people we hadn't heard from. Most people booked in the last two days so be prepared for that.

Once deposits were due guests then had another 90 days to pay. Once it was paid in full I sent out a pre travel brochure and luggage tag.

I didn't do STD as I didn't believe the 7 months we had needed STD and invites as deposits were due soon after.

I highly recommend a website as you can get so much info on it and also update it as needed. As people also RSVP on it you have that list in one spot if you want. I used an excel spreadsheet too.

Hope that helps. I'm sure I've forgotten something but if you have any questions let me know.

Congrats!

Like @@calgarybride2015 said, a website is a must to list prices, travel information, etc.  I sent a save the date 7 months out and will be doing invitations 2 months-ish out (that will be more for people not coming to the DW to invite them to the at home reception). I made my STD a magnet with our website so people could stick it on their fridge as a constant reminder to book!  By the time I sent out my save the dates, most people who have booked so far were already booked.  A lot of it was word of mouth for me, so just start chatting up your plans to your close friends and family since they're the ones most likely to go.  That way, you can also encourage them to book sooner rather than later, since prices tend to go up closer to the date.

Good luck!

I didn't do save the dates. I felt like I didn't have time and they would be a waste of money in my situation. I called and informed everyone that we would be having a DW in July 2015. I told them I was shopping around for the best prices so I wasn't sure on dates. When I finally picked out a resort (this took me a few months) I put a hold on the rooms/flights and my guest had 90 days to put down their deposits. So I decided on going straight to invitations. I ended up making a boarding pass and passport invitation which included all the information my guest needed.

. I then created a website and a Facebook group. This has been the best method of communication for me and my tech friends. I still do calls to others giving them updates and information.

The Facebook group has allowed my guest to get to know each other a little before we leave for the wedding.

Sorry I kinda rambled on, but of you have any more questions let me know :) Happy Planning!

We had 15 months for ours, so we did STD's right away directing them to the website and then invites are going out right now (5 months away). I would suggest with only 7 months, get word of mouth going right away and just get the invites out directing them to your website.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
