Hi Brides!

I'm having a beach wedding in Mexico in June, with our reception in an open air restaurant so it's going to be hot.  I don't want my guests to be miserable, but I also want everyone to look nice for pictures, but I'm having trouble figuring out what the right balance is.

For you beach brides, what are you asking your guests to wear?  Especially men--dress pants? Shorts? Dress shoes? Sandals?  I want to be able to give some guidelines since several people have already asked, because I'm afraid I'll end up with some guys melting in a suit and some guys bummin' it in shorts and a t shirt.  What do you think?

I pretty much just referenced the guidelines posted on theknot for beach-formal attire.  I stressed that a suit was not required, they should simply look nice but be comfortable. We'll be in Costa Rica during the hottest month of the year so beside my guests being miserable I don't want to be miserable so I'm also planning for the reception in the ballroom. Everything else will be outside.

I'm laid back. I said basically a nice pair of shorts and shirt or a summer dress. Nothing overly formal (as I am not) and I don't want them to die!

I did clearly say 'no swimsuits'

Since the whole bridal party is in sandals I defiantly don't mind if everyone else is

@calgarybride2015 I've seen a lot of anti-shorts brides, but I don't think I'd mind dress shorts on men.  I want the groom and groomsmen in linen/cotton pants, but beyond that I don't think it bothers me.

I'm putting "shoes optional" for everyone--what's better than a barefoot beach wedding!

Yah we are pretty chill about what they wear, but again no swimsuits! Shorts and flip flops are totally fine. The groom will be wearing flip flops for the reception and we are going barefoot for the ceremony.

My groom and his men are in shorts themselves so I'm sure those anti-shorts brides would love us haha

Definitely take your weather into consideration and also the overall vibe of your wedding. We were in Mexico in June and it was HOT during the days but it did get a bit cooler in the evenings.  I think my FI was okay in pants when we were there, but he would have melted in a long sleeve button up shirt, I think

Our wedding is in December so temperatures will be nice. I don't want our wedding to be overtly casual so I wrote "beach formal" for attire and specified no shorts, bathing suits or golf shirts on our pre-mailer.  For men, I'm envisioning khakis/dress pants with collared dress shirts.  They can do ties and suits if they want to - My mom has told all of the men in my family that a tie is expected haha.  I expect the women will be in dresses? It goes down to around 21/22 in the evenings so we have pashminas for the ladies

Some of this makes me feel so old! lol I just can't envision anyone in shorts for a wedding, beach or not. Believe me when I say that is just my own personal opinion!! Absolutely nothing against anything anyone else is doing!! For me, I would ask for long pants and a nice short sleeved shirt, either golf or button down (my hubby looks so darned sexy in a golf shirt!) and I would expect a nice summer dress for ladies.

I said "yes" again to the love of my life at Grand Coral Beach Club, Playa del Carmen, Mexico on our 4th anniversary - October 20, 2015

Our men are wearing long pants, suspenders and ties... FI will wear that and a vest.... Our guests will be asked to dress in resort wear. Collared shirts for men and either slacks or dress shirts... And dresses or skirts/capris for women. Our restaurants have a dress code at the resort for dinner and we are following suit for our wedding ceremony/reception.

heheh I am so not formal!!  But honestly for me, I wouldn't want to wear pants in a tropical location, so I don't feel my fiance should either.  I have never doubted he being in shorts, it's more the color of the shirt that drives me mental!!!!

But if we were to marry somewhere other than a beach, he would be in pants 100%
