How Much Are Your Guests Paying?

I was just VERY clear that price WOULD GO UP and that it was only held for the first 30 guests (in actuality we were given 50 guaranteed which they ultimately stretched). My RSVP To the wedding was the same day as my booking deadline and all the info to book was very clearly laid out on our website (where you had to go to RSVP) I sent a reminder postcard with one week left in the booking deadline and had 83 people booked. We have since had a couple stragglers and because we are still so far out, the tour operator honoured the original pricing.

Okay, what is your secret to getting people to book? My wedding is 6 days before yours in Jamaica and we only have 7 people who have booked (none of which are our family). At least 25 others have said they are for sure coming, but haven't put down that darn $150 deposit, which is driving me crazy.

Our deposit deadline was in September and 90% of the people who ended up putting down deposits (45 people) did so within the last two days of the deadline. I was stressed but trust me, it will come together, people procrastinate! And it's not a bad idea to follow up a few days before the deadline in case people forgot. I didn't follow up with everyone, just those who I knew were coming for sure or those who had mentioned to me that they wanted to come. There are always invited guests that are radio silent and I didn't bother to follow up with them.

You have 83 people booked over a year out?! You're my hero!

I honestly wouldn't be THAT worried about it, except that I've seen several brides from my resort talk about the resort selling out, overbooking and/or bumping their guests to another resort. (We don't have a room block.) I just want everyone to be together so that is my biggest fear!

Hahahhaa yeah but that stresses me out! I want to make it so amazing for everyone because it means so much to us that so many people are coming! It's gonna send us to the poor house!

I know how you feel--I'm so thrilled that so many of my friends and family are coming and get so excited as the number climbs up, but when I realize what that's doing to my wallet I start to stress!  But I tell myself that this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and money is just money--time with loved ones is so much more precious!  :)

  • 4 weeks later...

I've been watching pricing on tripcentral  on the resorts for this May/June (just to give me a rough idea) and have eliminated properties based star rating and on the approximate pricing there (the ones that go well above my guests budget and are lower than 4*), then I went through and eliminated a bunch more based on tripadvisor, reviews and pictures.

The problem we are facing is some places are telling us that it's too early for a quote lol, when I got in touch with the tripcentral wedding planners they said to contact them again in April/May... so maybe I'm being to hasty in looking right now (For May 2016... but flexible)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
