How Did You Do It?

Recommended Posts

My head is spinning from reading resort reviews, researching different islands, until finally deciding on Punta Cana (we have been here twice before and LOVE it), but now more factors are coming into play. People are concerned about getting sick because of the water (speaking of this, have any past brides had issues with the water and guests getting sick? This really does make me a little nervous), for example and in any case, I just can't figure out how to choose one resort!

Anyway, after my million spreadsheets containing resort ratings, amenities, etc. I think I've narrowed it down to 5 with Paradisus Resorts in the lead at the moment:

1) Paradisus Palma Real and/or Paradisus Punta Cana

2) Iberostar Resorts

3) Now Larimar

4) Riu Resorts

5) Dreams Resorts

A few points - a casino was a MUST for the groom and there will be over 100 guests ages 3 to 85! We would like nightlife since a majority of the guests will be between 25-35. I guess my question to you is - how did you pick where you were going to get married? Did anyone go to Punta Cana and just go visit a bunch of resorts? I'm just trying to figure out the best way to go about this. Any help - greatly appreciated because I feel like my head is going to explode....

Hi @@flaca313!  I'm getting married at Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe.  We didn't take a trip and visit a bunch of resorts, but if you can afford it you may want to - even if it's just an excuse to take a vacation!

I'm very happy with my choice as it has something for everyone.  We have a lot of people of all ages (my niece will turn 1 the day after we arrive and some of my older aunts/uncles are coming) so we needed something family friendly with lots to do and at a reasonable price.  Initially we were in talks with Paradisus Palma Real but found it was too expensive for our guests.  Our travel agent helped break down a few resorts and we decided based on costs and amenities.

As far as the water - we are advised not to drink it!  Only use bottled water.  They say you can brush your teeth with it, but my fiance decided to stay safe and use bottled water for that too....kind of a pain but it's not the end of the world.

Good luck making your decision!!

@@MrandMrsBonitto2016 I'm sorry I got locked out of my flaca account lol so I couldn't respond!! I put down a $500 deposit now, 50% of the wedding package is due 6 months prior to the wedding date and the rest (including extras) are to be paid in full 45 days before your wedding date!

Couldn't "mention" you in the post above! sorry!

I actually switched to Kukua. After add-ons an offsite location seemed less expensive.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
