I am wondering what others have done in terms of save the dates, invitations etc.  The destination wedding coordinator suggested just sending out a nice email with information announcing our wedding.  Have any of you done that?  If so, what was the response?  I also had someone recommend doing an e-card for the save the date and regular invitations later.  I would love to hear what you did an anything you would've done differently.

Welcome!

I only sent an invitation.   We sent out our invites mid May for our January wedding.

I also made a website on www.mywedding.com and our invite directed our guests there to get all the resort info, prices, travel agent contact info, etc.

Worked well for us as we didn't have much time for STDs and invites.

I have heard of people do e-card STDs and I think that is also a great idea - it would also save on $$$.

You will find each person does something a little different.   If we had more time I may have done a STD first, but our guests only had 90 days to put down a deposit so we just sent out the invites to make it easy for everyone.

Good luck!

I sent out Save the dates around June/July of 2014 for my May 2015 wedding. I am working on finishing my invites now. I also have a wedding website with a ton of information.

This link below is to a different thread I posted that has my STD pictures and invitation pictures so far.

We just sent out STDs out this week and we are not getting married till Nov 20 next year. I decided to send mine now because our deposit deadline is in Feb and with Christmas coming up I wanted to give people plenty of notice. We plan to send out our invited in June giving people a reminder at  about 6 months until the wedding.

Like others I have a website that I have told people to check often because we will be updating it as much as we can.

We sent out STD's....in September...which is the month we are getting married in next year...I went on Zazzle and created some from a stock design they had which ended up costing about $73.00 bucks. If I would have thought about it more...I could have done some myself that would have been more cost effective. I was more concerned with getting the info out to guest so that they could start planning. The hurricane hit in Cabo...and really put a hold on things so now I've had more time to think things through as far as invitations and other things. I am also creating a website...but just wanted to get the STD's out for those who aren't tech savvy.

@@cfinkenbine Thank you for the links.  This is very helpful!

I am thinking about sending out an e-card save the date since I have a lot of information from our destination wedding agent.  But I really appreciate everyone's insight.   I will most likely send out save the dates within the next week or so.

I created a website that had the TA-created save the date along with other information, and then attached that in an e-card STD. We sent the invites out about a week later - I had wanted to just send out the regular invites (and no e-card STD) but since we also only had 90 days for people to put in their deposits I wanted to make sure people had as much time as possible to look over the information. This seemed to work well and I'm glad we didn't send out multiple paper documents since the postage would have added up quickly!

@@KatyM81 I think that is the direction I am leaning towards.  We are still waiting on the final contract but I want to make sure I am ready to go once it's finalized.

I think if you start working on your website now (if you're doing one) and have it all ready to go with the info to just plug in that will help you save some sanity once you get the contract finalized. We had the e-card mirror our invites and it pretty much just had the date and pointed people to the website. I think we accidentally missed a few people on the email but since they ended up getting the invite a week later I didn't feel too terrible about it :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
