Is Airbrush Makeup Really Worth It?

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies. I want to hear whether some of you have had airbrush makeup before, whether for your wedding or other events. Did you think it was worth the extra money? I know it's hard for makeup to stick with the heat and humidity of the tropics, but will airbrush really solve that problem?

I don't have first hand experience but I've been read two recent reviews on this board where they didn't get airbrush and it stayed on the entire day. Jackielenman at moon palace and then okotoksbride from my resort -- she mentioned they sprayed her face after to hold it in place.

Given these recent reviews I am just going to stick to my resorts spa. We get charged per person using offsite hair/makeup services so that fee is just way to hard to swallow. Also leaving the resort was on my radar but still not sure I wanna be offsite. The day will be busy and people trying to be in contact with us - WC, family, photographer etc and not sure I wanna deal with traveling off site and not being available for last minute issues, family trying to do my daughter's hair, etc.

Good luck.

From everything I've heard, it's definitely worth it. I found out about it too close to my wedding to be able to do anything about it, and looking at our photos now 3 years later, I wish I had. For Jamaica, from what I've read it really does help in terms of helping your makeup last longer, and continue to look fresh. The spa at the resort overdid my makeup and I wasn't happy with it at all. By the time we were finished with photos, I hated the makeup. I wish I had made the time before our ceremony to take a lot of it off and redo it myself. I'm definitely going to go with the airbrushing for our renewal and I'm also going to be much more outspoken about what I want and don't want.

@@calgarybride2015 @@acw271011 thanks ladies. I think the resort spa has good reviews and they offer airbrush makeup. It's just a ridiculous price, at around $200 . I also thought about going offsite. I speak the language so getting around and making myself understood shouldn't be a problem, but I decided against it for the same reasons as you Kim. I thought it would add stress when it's really not needed. I'm worried about the makeup, more than the hair to be honest. I wear makeup every day and I like it, but i'm all about the natural look and I hate to have makeup caked on my face or eyeshadow that makes me look like an 80s hooker. I thought about doing it myself, but I think it will make a difference on the pictures to have it professionally done. That is one aspect where I'll go bridezilla on haha, my makeup.

$200 is steep!   Regular makeup at my resort is around $85, if I am remembering correctly, so from that perspective maybe $200 isn't that ridiculous.  It is pricey though, the companies you can hire in the Mayan are cheaper than my resort!

If you are super stressed about your makeup, would you consider doing a trial? Possibly it would be cheaper than the wedding day -- our resort is, but not by much.

Hair is my big fear so I am doing a hair trial, but not a makeup trial. I am also into the natural look, but I think you can have a natural look without being a 80's hooker LOL!!!!  Ask for natural shades and such.  I don't think in this day and age they will be caking it on, but I could be wrong.  Our resort also had good reviews - more for hair than makeup, as it seems lots of brides do their own makeup.

EDIT: what about having MAC or Sephora teach you here and do it yourself?  Then you have their tips and tricks, but you get to do it yourself?

that's a good idea. I'm pretty good with makeup so I think I could probably pull if off. It's worth a try!

I hired a make up artist/hair team (really JUST FOR the airbrush makeup). I have no experience with it whatsoever, but I know it costs more because it is so wonderful (I hear). So instead of worrying about doing anything myself, or our resorts spa without airbrush…I am paying the extra cash.

Who did you hire?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
