I'll be taking my dress to two local independent tailors today to get quotes :)  I know I can't charge it to a DB cc, but maybe I can open a new card up at my band ;)  I'd rather support local business too!!!

I've heard wonderful things about one of the shops.

Does anyone else have experience with how much alterations cost at David's Bridal? I bought my dress their, and that is where I was planning on having my alterations done…but a quote of something crazy like $400 seems like so much!

I went to DB yesterday as well as a local independent seamstress.

I was quoted $400 at the independent shop, and $420 at DB.

I have the Oleg Cassini CWG482, so I guess I'm screwed due to the bottom having so many tulle layers :/ The bustle gets added up as well, due to the layers on the train.

I am planning on just starting with the sweetheart ($30) and hemming up the front ($120), then 2 months before I'll get the sides and bottom taken in as well as the bustle.  I figure I might as well split the payments up since I do have a credit card and I'm still 6 months away.

Bottom line, the less layers on a dress and details, the cheaper your alterations will be.

I should really get on this. My appt with DB is about 1 month from now and I was going to shop around as well.

It would have to be a large savings to go elsewhere! I have a few recommendations.  Hopefully not to expensive.

Alterations are such a scam everywhere! Lol It's not just DB but many places they just tend to charge a lot. My dress isn't from DB but I was quoted for $400 for alterations - even though it isn't even clear yet how much needs to be altered as I haven't received the dress yet. Even though the price is steep, I'm too nervous about taking my chances elsewhere.

This is a one time expense for my big day.....well that's what I have to keep reminding myself whenever I look at these prices  ;)

My bridesmaids dresses are from DB, I'm sure I will be charged a lot for alterations but am just going to stick with them either way

I wonder how much I am going to be charged for alterations as my whole dress only cost 400$! I wanted to tighten the halter, put bra cups in, and bustle it... I think I am going to try 2 independent places this winter and go from there. I will try to keep it around 100$

I definitely think it depends on the store, the small bridal shop I bought my dress from quoted me 200-250 on taking it in, shortening the hem, shortening the train, and doing a 3 point bustle. I plan on sticking with them because I bought the dress from them, but my friend knows a great alterations person in the area who would do it for less, soI have options. I would definitely call around as those prices seem high!

I plan to lose weight…so I will need mine taken in…hemmed (ALOT, I am only 5 foot tall!!), and a bustle of some sort… (that is what it is called to put the train up after the ceremony right?). I bought my dress at DB for under $500. I have never had any clothes altered and would be afraid to take them somewhere I haven't been before. I guess I will just take mine to DB and hope for the best!

So........

true story

I went to the thrift store today, to find my Halloween costume.

And you know how thrift stores always have some really super 80's wedding dresses that you're like... "oh shit, that's soooo ugly"..... Well, I actually found a wedding dress that is lace, mermaid cut, and the bottom half is silk.   So amaze-balls.  I bought the thing.   $25.  My friend didn't think I was serious. I tried it on and she told me "well, it is you".   I take that as a compliment... an odd one, seeing that my style is a bit unique.

I'm taking it to the tailor to get a quote, because yes, the sleeves suck, but my god, I'm so in love with it.   Hopefully will be only $100 or less for altering.  It fits like a freakin' glove. We were meant for each other.

Anyone interested in an Oleg Cassini CWG482 dress?   Bought it for $1000+ size 10.  I'll sell for $700 :D OBO. Never been "officially" worn.

Will be posting it in other forums soon.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
