Just curious..what location did you pick for your wedding.

about 3 months away from our wedding I'm debating if the group rate was worth it.  We have a few guests that will be booking outside of the group rate and last minute and I don't blame them.  When it comes to money, I'd rather someone attend than not attend because our group price didn't drop.

so frustrated.

Keep in mind that the rooms your guests are getting now outside of your group might be the sell off rooms, so yes, they're cheaper, but likely you wouldn't have been able to get rooms for everyone had you waited this long. There might only be a handful left. I think you made the right choice ;)

@@veryvalentine Excellence Playa Mujeres. I knew it was going to be more expensive than those closer to Cancun.

For us we didn't have enough people coming to get a group rate. We needed 10 rooms and I think we were going to have about 7 rooms.

Also, we are looking at getting married in 2016. So for a year I've been looking at 2015 prices to get an idea of cost, but apparently, 2016 prices have gone up more than we expected.

This has ended up working out for the best for us. We are now getting married in FL and both of our parents can now come! My parents weren't able to come to Mexico due to health reasons, I understood but really wanted my daddy to walk me down the isle!

Since I had my heart set on going to Excellence Playa Mujeres, we are now going there for our honeymoon.

Also, I'm not sure at my resort that there were many perks for doing a group rate. I know some places the bride and groom get free nights or other things included.

I know its frustrating, but just enjoy the planning process. And my best advice, its your wedding!! Dont change for other people! They will try to get you to change things for silly reasons but if its what you want, stick to it!! This is where most of my stress has occurred.

Recently someone said that my idea for favors wasnt going to work because a few people wouldn't be able to take it home on a plane. Since we are getting married in FL where the citrus trees grow, I was thinking of having citrus fruits as a favor. ( for some reason when people from here go to FL they always bring home oranges and grapefruit.) My fiance was worried that this wouldn't work because a few guest (2 households) couldn't take it home on the plane...well I've made a decision on this as our favor and only acts of God are going to change this plan!! I'm truly sick of changing things for others! This is the 4th different location/city we have picked and we always change because of other people. Someone doesn't like that the venue is small and we can't invite certain people, or and this was said to my face " you can't have your wedding that day and there because that's the day we celebrate our anniversary! And they know someone who has already been married at this location!! " so dont try to please everyone, its your wedding and its about you and your finance, other people are just guest to celebrate with you.

Sorry for my rant... Its been frustrating! Good luck with your planning!

Two last minute questions...is you have to tell anyone before hand that ou were taking your dress on the plane? Also, do we make an appt with the WC when we get there or before?

Nope I just showed up with my dress. It's common. If they don't offer a closet ask if they have one. I was first class and had kids so I boarded early but if I hadn't have had those advantages I would have done pre boarding anyways haha

I was anal so I emailed to ask when my meeting was before we left to Mexico. Just incase it conflicted with our plans, etc but upon check in they had a nice letter for me in our check in package we got :)

I want to pick your brain about your Card box / Treasure chest / Memory box...I want to do something similar....instead of a Chest I am using a Photo Box...How did you get that map in there so perfectly?!

Did you just print the map off the internet?

Hey I printed it off the internet. I googled 'map of Mexico' and chose that one based on the color. I just measured the inside of the box and then cut the paper. I used double sided tape and had the lid flat on the table ( spouse held it down so it didn't flop around) and I stuck it in. Haha was stressful but placed it on the first try :)

@@calgarybride2015 Thanks! Looks like I'm also using the same shell as you for my rings! Just looking back thru your pictures there now....I might have to steal a few more ideas! I forgot how many fantastic things you made! :) I started my planning thread today so I'm trying to gather where I got my ideas from to give credit for my next few up coming posts :)

Awesome on the shell. It's nice cause the holes are there for the ribbon and you don't have to worry about the glue :)

Can't wait to see your thread.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
