Calgarybride2015's Planning Thread 15/1/21 Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya

Recommended Posts

I am totally going to walmart to look for pepto. We couldn't find a decent deal/shipping on amazon! This is so organized it inspires me to write mine!

So did I read previously that you are staying at a condo, not the resort? I stayed at a house on the grand Sirenis property 3 years ago - are you doing the same?!

I searched high and low on Amazon and on other sites and just couldn't find great deals when you looked at shipping to Canada.  Walmart and Dollarama it was! (I missed listing my advil above, but got them for $2 each at Dollarama).

Not sure you read that from me. We are staying in the resort, on the Riviera Maya side!   Did you like the resort? We have people coming to our wedding who have previously stayed there - we haven't heard any bad reviews!

You must be stoked!! coming so quick. I hope you write one, now or  later, because we would love to hear all about it.

EDIT: looking back I can see why Shawn was annoyed I spent so much time online, but heck I saved us a lot of money!  I know shipping to Canada is bad no matter what, but only two things really made me gulp -- my labels for the cups and my bloom box vases.

I don't even know how many hours/days/weeks I've spent on the internet finding deals but it's waaaaaay too much!

My fiance calls me the deal hunter hahah. Not just on wedding stuff. I swear every time I go somewhere the deals just follow me. I always go to stores and I'm like "Oh, I like this" and boom, 50% off haha so he always says he needs to take me shopping with him. But I also spend a lot of time searching around for the best price on the most important/expensive things.

I still don't know if being a deal hunter is a good thing. I always end up spending more money because I find everything so cheap haha. On the other hand, I rarely buy things that are full priced unless I really like them or really need it.

Depending where you shop you should barely have to spend full price :) I sign up for all my regular stores emails and get super deals/coupons!

UPDATE 14/10/17

Today is not only 3 months until we fly, but also our payment deadline.

There was some iffy people, but I think we have spoken with most  of them recently and I think we are good to go!

I feel bad for fiance, his groomsman who LIVES in Mexico is being an arse.   I get it if you are seriously broke and can't afford to come, but you have had 7 months, you recently posted on FB you've been working a lot (works online in Mexico for a Canadian company).... and you post pictures of yourself partying it up every night... I find it hard to believe you can't afford to come to our wedding.  So right now he may come for the day, he isn't sure if he can come for more UGH!  Thankfully I never budgeted the locals in Mexico in our numbers for any bonuses, but I feel bad for fiance as he is a groomsman and just doesn't seem to take any of this seriously - even getting his sizes so we could get him a matching outfit was like pulling teeth!.  Sorry rant over!

On the bright side, my Vistaprint order came and once our people are confirmed to have paid thru my TA, these will go out!!!

They turned out great!!!

Our paperwork is due on the 21st. We have been working on our seating arrangement and it is HARD!   We thought we were close; we wanted our parents together, but we unfortunately had my dad/step mom with all of Shawn's family just due to how it all worked out (singles and trios make it hard haha). My dad was ok with this 100%,  But my sister put up a stink her spouse wasn't with any family except her son and my 2 kids... so I tried to rearrange it and while it works, I liked the first way better! ugh, have to sleep on it for a few nights.  You can't make everyone happy, I am not a jar of nutella LOL, but we will see what happens!  It's only for dinner, people will be up and dancing and mingling, etc.

So if we leave it we would have:

head table

table 1 - Shawn's family (older folk)

table 2 - my dad/step mom, brother in law, nephew, my kids, then some of my friends with their kids

table 3 - my sister/boyfriend, aunt/uncle/cousin, then a mix of Shawn's family

table 4 - a mix of everyone who is a party animal

NON wedding to-do list

- nursing license renewal

- book kid's birthday party

If I post them here I might not forget! wow my mind is so wedding it's nuts!

Nice Kim. Wow can't believe that groomsman is being like that when he lives in Mexico- really, how much is it going to cost? ugh, people. Where did you get the template for the MEXICO part of the luggage tag?

I honestly just googled Mexico images and loved it. So I used it then realized maybe that was a no no? As it's their tourism emblem but I'm not advertising it as my own so I'm trying to feel ok. Just like our flags posted all over items!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
