Hi,

I've been engaged for six weeks today (I can't even believe it)! We know for sure we want a destination wedding but I have no idea where to start. City Hall is looking kind of good these days ;-)  Any help advice…recommendations would be sooo appreciated.

That is so exciting, congrats! I would start with finding a travel agent, they are really helpful with assisting in finding a resort. Is there a certain country you are looking at getting married in? (We are getting married at the court house, but still having a symbolic destination wedding!)

Hi! Thank you. Ahh ok that's a great idea. We aren't totally sure just yet. We are thinking a spanish speaking country…possibly Panama..Belize..Mexico? We are also thinking we would definitely get married here and then have a ceremony somewhere to celebrate with family/friends.

We are having our destination wedding in Mexico, Riviera Maya to be exact. If you are having a symbolic ceremony, legality won't be an issue…but if you do chose to go to the legal route in a foreign country…make sure you check the requirements. (Mexico for example has a lot of requirements to get married legally there.) There are a lot of great resorts in Mexico! Are you wanting to get married at a resort? And do you have a date set??

welcome to BDW! We also did the courthouse wedding (just the legal stuff) and then a symbolic ceremony at our DW. Our friends & family didn't know that we were legally married prior to the ceremony. No big deal!

Finding a travel agent who is familiar with destination weddings is the best piece of advice to get you started. Then you'll want to get an idea of how many guests you might have so your TA can help find a resort that can accommodate the group (especially if you have a larger party!).

Take it one step at a time, and try to enjoy every minute of the process. It's easy for me to say - but don't stress about it. It'll all work out...

Congratulations! I would definitely suggest finding a travel agent as they are very helpful! I would also say start a new email address account for all wedding related stuff! It then doesnt bombard your regular account!

Congratulations! About 6 weeks in I, too, was strongly leaning toward eloping or doing the courthouse. My fiance actually talked me out of it just because we'll never, ever get our friends and family to go on vacation together again! But, we decided we were doing everything our way - whether that ends up being traditional or not - and within a budget we were comfortable with. It is still a little daunting at times, but once you pick your venue it gets MUCH easier. I promise.

Happy planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
