Winnipeg/manitoba Brides?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm a Manitoba bride too!!! Just about to put our down deposit for the Barcelo Maya Palace in Riviera Maya for January 2016! Will get to pick our date once we are booked with air canada!

Interested in any suggestions for wording about the deadline for group rates for down deposits on the invitations! I was thinking of sending a save the date with simple details. Then send a letter along with it listing all the details. Guests will have 90 days to put down deposit, so need to send out the info ASAP!!! Getting nervous and excited! Any suggestions about what to tell guests?!

Welcome! There are tons of great brides here who will literally have the answer to everything and anything you think of! Read a TON on the forums and get to know the other brides... Planning will be a lot of fun... Enjoy!

@@kimmyd2 I'm a Winnipeg bride!

Hi there!

I am from Winnipeg. We are getting married January 6th, 2016 at the Azul Fives Resort in the Mayan Riviera. We are using Transat Air.

let me know if I can help with anything!

@@Smellsey We're also looking at getting married on January 6th, 2016!  Likely Riu Jalisco or Dreams Villamagna in Puerto Vallarta.

We went to see Laura at Journeys Travel Centre a couple weeks ago and so far I haven't heard anything from her about pricing or packages.  She said last week she was waiting for resorts to get back to her.  Did anyone else have to wait long to get info, or is she just blowing smoke?

@@calgarybride2015 5 sleeps?!?  You must be so excited!!  I'm excited for you  :D

Hi guys! how is everyones planning coming along??

@@pykx82 I know what you mean I have been waiting a while for prices from TAs as well.  And I'm horrible at planning and have nothing planned yet lol except that we want to get married jan 2016 in the Riviera maya.  I first talked to a TA here in Winnipeg and got no where, then contacted Laurie Lee that was suggested by a lot of users here and I've been emailing her since end of December with the resorts I'm interested in and she has been pretty good but I still haven't gotten any quotes from here and she never called me back?! which I thought was great as so many have recommended her.... SO now last week I have contacted Isabel Muchado at Algonquin Travel here in Winnipeg as @@Smellsey recommended and so far she has been great and she was hoping to get quotes for me today!

Its been a frustrating start forsure as I feel like I have been going around in circles talking to travel agents and looking at resorts for the past 3 months and have no date set or venue... but as everyone says on here that it always works out so I am staying positive.

Did you girls go to the wedding show? I was supposed to go but something came up in the family so I missed it.

@@pykx82 I am actually going to a wedding this feb in peurto Vallarta, were staying at the  Now Amber and her wedding is at las caletas which I have been to before and it is amazing.  The you will love the dreams or riu resorts for sure and I heard that the beach is so much nicer up there then closer to downtown pv.  Were hoping to check out dreams vm while we are there since you can dine there for free while staying at the Now, so I will let you know that goes. But if you haven't looked into wedding at Las Caletas you should!

@@calgarybride2015 woohoo  and congrats in advance on your wedding !

@@jackiet2016 just saw this post, excited you are going to the barcelo, we went there 2 years ago, it was amazing, love the resort and the best beach I have seen in mexico!  We looked into weddings here as well, but I just really wanted to go somewhere I haven't been before.  However I think it is still an option for us.  What locations did you choose?

I don't have any suggestions about wording, haven't thought that far ahead yet, but my friends that had DW in the past just put up a quick message on a facebook event they made to quickly get across the booking details and everyone was cool with that. So that is probably what I will do and then add to refer to the wedding website for more details, and then send out invites whenever you like there are no rules and people appreciate the more notice the better I think.

@@kimmyd2 I gave up on Laura at Journeys and also called Isabel last week!  So far she's been way better.  She responds to my emails right away and called me back within 10 minutes of my initial email to her.  I'm waiting on quotes, but it's only been 3 days and she had the wedding show in there so I'm not worried.

I did stop by the wedding show to wander around.  I checked out the fashion show (nothing blew me away) and stopped by the Algonquin booth to introduce myself.  Isabel was so nice and friendly and gave me a big hug, so that was reassuring.  She seems genuinely excited to do weddings.

In other news, I chatted with the fella from Rygiel Photography and was instantly turned off.  He asked me if I had my dress yet and when I said that I'd found it but hadn't ordered it yet, he immediately launched into the hard sell for Stella's (which he evidently now owns).  I've had bad experiences previously at Stella's so it really left a bad taste in my mouth when he went on and on about how much better they are than everyone else, how 7th Avenue is too small and not nearly as good as Stella's, etc.  I personally would choose 7th Avenue a thousand times over Stella's.  They're just so wonderful to deal with.  I first went there 8 years ago while shopping for my first wedding and they still remember me every time I go in there.  Anyway, that's just my little rant, haha.

@@pykx82 @@kimmyd2 Oh I am so glad that you both called Isabel and love her as much as I do! She responds to emails within minutes. She was like that from the beginning and is still like that. I recommend her to everyone!

Yes -I did go to the wedding show. I went up to see Isabel and she immediately recognized me and asked about my fiancé. I couldn't ask for a better travel agent.

I have heard from a couple of my guests that she doesn't respond right away to them but just think of all of the weddings that she coordinates and each guest from those weddings that she has to work with. I told my guests if they have trouble to tell me, I then email or call her and she responds right away. Her office is only open until 5pm yet she will stay until 8pm if I need her too!

Good luck picking your resorts. Just remember.... any place is better than Winnipeg in Jan/Feb!!!

@@kimmyd2 congrats on choosing!! I swear I personally thought that was the hardest part lol.

I haven't been doing a ton. I am stuck between 2 wedding dresses. I have given myself until this Saturday to decide - I have been thinking about them for like a month now lol! I also went and bought some silk flowers from Michaels that were 50 percent off. So pumped!!

How about anyone else?

I have been emailing Katy from Lace and Love as well and I have it narrowed down to a catamaran that we are going to get everyone

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
