It was our choice what we did with the free trips. We decided to reduce the cost of our trip and spend that money on special things at the wedding - mariachi band being one.

Us too.

Originally we planned on lowering the price of everyone's package, but with $5000 and change in free trip credits spread over 82 people that was only like $55 each and hardly worth it. Instead we are putting that $ toward a few extra special things in Mexico for our guests to make their trip more memorable.

Exactly! I just did the math and our guests would have saved $44 each, what's the point?

The memories, like you said, will mean way more than $44.

yah once you think of it like that - it is not worth giving it to people. I am not sure if I will get anything like that from our resort or not.

The costs of the resort can change quite dramatically from resort to resort. just choose your budget and go from there

Just an FYI- these deals aren't offered by the resort, but either your TA or the tour operator. Make sure you ask!

That is great that you can put those little savings towards the wedding then, makes a lot of sense!

@@Smellsey are you guys having a wedding social in winnipeg before your before?

Yes - we are. Most likely a summer one or Halloween. I probably won't have all of the silent auction prices and such. It will be a party for the people who aren't coming to the wedding to celebrate with us.

  • 2 months later...

Hi! I'm a Manitoba bride too!!! Just about to put our down deposit for the Barcelo Maya Palace in Riviera Maya for January 2016! Will get to pick our date once we are booked with air canada!

Interested in any suggestions for wording about the deadline for group rates for down deposits on the invitations! I was thinking of sending a save the date with simple details. Then send a letter along with it listing all the details. Guests will have 90 days to put down deposit, so need to send out the info ASAP!!! Getting nervous and excited! Any suggestions about what to tell guests?!

Welcome and congrats!

I am a Calgary bride, but I also used Air Canada Vacations.

I did things a little bit different, but this is what I did....

I sent out invites about 8 months in advance (mid May), right when we booked our package, so like you everyone had 90 days.  On my invitations I only gave basic info (date, time, resort) and I said for all information and to RSVP they should visit our wedding website.

I used mywedding.com  It's free and very easy to use.

On our website I put a lot of info about our resort - our travel agent, the prices, dates, deadlines, good to knows about the resort/travelling, RSVP page, etc.  We explained that only 30 seats were guaranteed at that price and it was first come first serve. We also told them if they missed this deal and/or didn't pay their full payment on time they would forfeit the group booking price.

I made my RSVP date the same as the booking deadline (mid July).

We had to call and send emails to people 1-2 times in the last couple weeks, as MOST people waited until the last couple of days to book.

Then after deposits were due, the final payments were due in mid October. Once those were paid, I sent out a pre-travel brochure and luggage tags.

We still had people book on their own after but we knew some people where going to be last minute. We gave them an extended RSVP of mid November.  Come early December we just everyone else off!

In the end we had way more than 30 people book but my travel agent was able to secure them all the same price.

Hope that helps.

and..... 5 more sleeps!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
